I looked in temples, churches, and mosques.
But I found the Divine within my heart.
Rumi, 13th-Century Poet

This month’s New Moon occurs on Sunday1 in the fiery sign of Leo and both (Leo and Sunday) are ruled by the Sun!  From a numerology perspective, August 8 (8-8) is significant because 8 is the symbol for infinity, power, and strength. This is important when pondering a powerful Moon–Sun event such as this one, because the Sun’s illuminating rays bestow life; sacred wisdom through spiritual practice; and the ability to creatively actualize ourselves, both physically and spiritually.

Leo is represented by the proud and powerful lion. A symbol of divine knowledge in many cultures, the lion is recognized from Europe to Africa as the power of the Shakti — divine energy. Hindus, for example, believe that the Man–Lion, Vishnu, has both the sovereignty and power of dharma (natural law) to destroy evil and ignorance.

When balanced and healthy, the lion is a strong leader, courageous, regal, and proud. Leo inspires creative selfexpression and the fire of the leonine Sun ignites passion, motivation, and single-minded focus on one’s goals. Leo’s are gregarious, generous, and enjoy children and playfulness. The warmth of the Leo Sun inspires intimate–romantic moments, as well as honoring and loving our own special uniqueness.

The below excerpt was taken from Matt Kahn’s book Whatever arises LOVE that: A Love Revolution That Begins with You, p. 1, opening paragraph

A NEW SPIRITUALITY has dawned: one that acknowledges your
energetic sensitivity … This is a heart-centered  journey … With
every step forward … you leap to the forefront of human evolu-
tion by understanding that in a Universe of endless questions,
        love is the only answer.

You may recall from my New Moon in July article that the fixed star, Sirius, made an exact conjunction with the Sun on July 5. Sirius’s continued heliacal rising with the Sun during July and August is associated with the entire Dog-Days-of-Summer cycle, which occurs several days before and after Sirius and our Sun make their exact conjunction. Believed to have the ability to make the mundane sacred, Sirius is often described as our Spiritual Sun. Astrologically, our Solar Sun’s rulership in Leo is associated with the heart. For eons, this annual celestial union has been revered for its heavenly combustion of energy and its ability to heighten Sirius’s transmission of highly-charged divine energy into our Solar system.

Lastly, Uranus is in aspect to this Leo New Moon, creating an opportune time to “think outside the box” and create change in our lives. The Merriam-Webster online dictionary defines thinking out of the box as follows: to explore ideas that are creative and unusual and that are not limited or controlled by rules or tradition. Well, that certainly sums up the Leo New Moon–Uranus aspect nicely. Therefore, be sure and set intentions and goals to actualize some/or all of those ideas you come up with.

Since the heart is associated with Leo, it is important during this New Moon to set intentions for change that deeply connect with your heart’s desires. This is important for all of us, but especially important for Leos, who can actually develop physical heart ailments when they ignore the sacred promptings of their inner heart. The essence of your creative light and the ability to love yourself and others exists within the center of your heart. Tap into your heart-center during this New Moon and honor your unique and special gifts.

Leo New Moon Key Words: Solar Light, Divine Shakti, Creative Actualization, Playfulness and the Inner Child, Heart Consciousness and Self Love, Courageous, Bold, Passionate, Sense of Purpose, Romance & Love Affairs, Children, the Physical Heart
