Mercury moved into the sign of Scorpio on Thursday, October 3 and will make its retrograde station in Scorpio on October 31 or “All Hallow’s Eve,” a Scottish term that most of us know as Halloween. Yes, we are in for some interesting trickster shenanigans during this upcoming retrograde period (Oct. 31 – Nov. 20). You may also wish to note that Mercury’s total duration in the sign of Scorpio is just over two months, since he doesn’t move into Sagittarius until December 9.
Scorpio is the zodiac sign most associated with all things Halloween — specifically, the underworld. Mercury travels about with the intent of delivering clear and concise messages. Known as “the messenger of the gods,” he’s not afraid to travel to the places that many fear — beyond the veils of our physical realms — the deep Scorpionic unconscious.
Masks, monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches, and haunted houses are deemed the dominion of traditional Halloween spirits and spooks. Fortunately, these are generally metaphors for the unsettled feelings that Scorpio seeks to make conscious. Facing our personal demons, shadows, and “the truth” can be quite scary at times. Life and death (transformation), power, passion, deep intimacy, and all things associated with these dynamics, are Scorpio’s domain. Corruption, money, sex, obsession, abuse of power, disempowerment — these uncomfortable themes, and more, may be unveiled in our external and internal environments during the next two months.
Scorpio is the water sign that relates to deeply buried emotions and the destructive patterns attempting to mask them. This Mercury period has the potential to suddenly illuminate hidden agendas and encourage long overdue transformation. If you desire change, you will want to embrace this powerful Mercury Retrograde cycle to transmute and transform your life. Ask that any hidden actions or thought processes be illuminated, so they can be acknowledged. Once acknowledged, a deep transformation can occur.
Facing personal truths and purging yourself of addictions or manipulative habits require strength, courage, humility, faith, and other qualities of a soul with stamina, because you are not just changing yourself; you are changing your universe. Your soul is a compass. Change one coordinate in your spiritual compass and you change your entire life’s direction. — Caroline Myss

“Scorpio teaches us that passion happens only when we bring all of who we are to what we are experiencing.” — Olivia Matus
This month’s New Moon in Scorpio ushers in an annual and auspicious celestial event known by the Hindus as Diwali or The Festival of the Lights. It is a time of celebration and lighting of lamps to honor the light of consciousness that exists within each of us. Diwali also marks the beginning of a new financial year. Households and businesses begin new accounting ledgers dedicated to the Divine Mother and Lakshmi — the goddess of love, grace, and financial abundance.
Scorpio is the zodiac sign that symbolizes death and rebirth, so it is no coincidence that the Sun is transiting the sign of the Scorpion during Halloween and Dia de los Muertos, the two holidays that recognize and honor dead souls. This month’s New Moon also falls in the domain of the Scorpion and will highlight personal power dynamics, possessions, other people’s money, passion, love and sexuality, and deep internal transformations (often referred to as alchemy). As a water sign, Scorpio represents our emotional realm, and most specifically our subconscious – the underworld.
Mercury is also in the sign of Scorpio (along with the Sun, Moon, and Venus), and is preparing to make its third and final retrograde cycle for 2019 on Halloween day. Astrologically, Mercury is associated with communication and our thought processes. Some say that our voice and the words we choose to speak create our karma. Since words are based on our thought processes, we therefore must consciously change our thoughts so that we can affect the words we speak. Karma isn’t a bad thing, rather it’s quite simply the law of cause and effect: To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
“Situations seem to happen to people, but in reality, they unfold from
deeper karmic causes. The universe unfolds to itself, bringing to bear any cause that needs to be included. Don’t take this process personally. The working out of cause and effect is eternal. You are part of this rising and falling that never ends, and only by riding the wave can you ensure that the waves don’t drown you. The ego takes everything personally, leaving no room for higher guidance or purpose. If you can, realize that a cosmic plan is unfolding and appreciate the incredibly woven tapestry for what it is, a design of unparalleled marvel.” ― Deepak Chopra
Additionally, Uranus, the planet of change — in the earthy and personal zodiac sign of values — Taurus, is making an exact opposition to this powerful Scorpio New Moon. We can summarize the importance of this aspect in just a couple of words: change of personal values. Uranus in Taurus is asking us to awaken to our authentic truest values and Scorpio wishes to eliminate that which is no longer in alignment with our personal destiny.
This New Moon is a favorable time to rejoice in your transformative meditations and request that the goddesses of grace and good fortune, (Venus, Aphrodite, and Lakshmi,) bestow their gifts of love, peace and harmony, abundance, and the light of inner awareness into your life.

In general, Mercury is the planet that astrologically represents travel, communication and our thought processes. Known as the Messenger of the Gods, Mercury’s role is to speedily deliver clear and precise information. Retrograding 3-4 times a year, when the planetary trickster strikes, many of our daily activities go haywire.
Mercury also rules electronics and is often blamed for all types of technical mishaps with cell phones, electric devices and computers, warranting an important time to backup your computer files. In general terms, machines of all kinds tend to act strangely and take on a Murphy’s Law theme.
Remain flexible and prepare for delays and miscommunications of all kinds. It is best to avoid signing any contractual agreements as matters begun during Mercury retrograde periods tend to take unexpected twists and turns in the future. During Mercury retrograde periods we often find ourselves revisiting past projects or situations that once again need our attention. It is also a time period, however, when we often hear from or feel compelled to reach out to old friends or lovers whom we haven’t spoken to in some time.
Although Mercury retrograde periods may seem frustrating at times, they provide opportunities to review or finish up old projects, contact old friends or clean out the closet and garage. It’s an opportune time for introspection and deep thought.
Note: Planets do not actually move backwards (retrograde). A retrograding planet is the result of an optical illusion due to its relative speed from our point of view on Earth.

This month’s Full Moon is a Harvest Moon, which is the Full Moon occurring closest to the Fall Equinox (Monday, September 23), the end of summer and the beginning of fall. It takes place in the mystical sign of Pisces on the superstitious day that we all know as Friday the 13th.
Thirteen happens to be the number of lunar cycles and twelve the number of solar months that occur annually. Solar vibrations represent creation and lunar vibrations receptivity: Each is energetically important. You can search the internet and find a plethora of positive mystical meaning surrounding Fridays — the day given to the love Goddess Venus — as well as the number 13, which many ancient cultures believed held mystical meaning. You can also find plenty of information regarding our current fear-based superstition of Friday the 13th.
In his book Becoming Supernatural, Dr. Joe Dispenza points out that “The only way we can change our lives is to change our energy — to change the electromagnetic field we are constantly broadcasting. In other words, to change our state of being, we have to change how we think and how we feel.” What do you choose to think and feel or align your precious energy with?
Astrologically, the light of a Full Moon illuminates the area of our life symbolized by the zodiac sign in which it falls. Full Moons always occur when the Moon is in opposition to the Sun. The Sun will be in Virgo during this Full Moon and will, therefore, emphasize the Pisces–Virgo themes of healing. Both these signs are sensitive to environmental pollutants and toxins.
The good news is that the awareness of any sensitivities can encourage purification and ultimately the integration of body-mind-spirit. Both Pisces and Virgo are mutable signs, which are flexible and adaptable to change. Take advantage of this powerful restorative Full Moon and create healthy new routines that allow you to connect to divine and create improved ways of living.
Pisces is the mystical sign that represents union — the unending quest of humankind to merge with divine. The eternal Piscean search for union (whether conscious or not) can permeate your dreaming and waking reality. From this vantage point, the Full Moon in Pisces is highlighting the balance between self and other, offering an important reminder that our ultimate relationship is the integration or union with the divinity that exists deep within us. The veils between the Earth and spirit realms are thinner when Pisces is emphasized in the heavens, so you can expect your daily activities to feel dreamier and more surreal than usual over the next couple of days.
Replace fear-based thinking with love-based thinking. Every time you’re making a choice, ask yourself if it’s going to cultivate the experience of unity and love or the experience of separation and stress. — Deepak Chopra
Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac and represents the culmination of a cycle — endings in one or more areas of life, or simply letting go of habitual patterns that no longer serve your highest wellbeing. During this paramount time on our planet, many of us are experiencing ongoing changes that require relinquishing comforts associated with old ways of being. Even the most difficult culminations will serve your highest good as they simultaneously prevent unnecessary crises and suffering that result when necessary changes are resisted. Therefore, embrace and honor the wisdom of fluidity that this potent Full Moon is granting and dream new and exciting visions into your future.
Pisces Full Moon Key Words: Flexibility, Dreamtime, Intuition, Suffering, Healing or Healing Crises (of body-mind-spirit), Culmination, Union with Divine.
