The cultural transformation from the love of power to the power of love is the drama of our time. ~ Anodea Judith, Waking the Global Heart.
Scorpio is the zodiac sign that symbolizes death and rebirth, so it is no coincidence that the Sun is transiting the sign of the Scorpion during Halloween and Dia de los Muertos, the holidays that recognize and honor dead souls. This month’s New Moon also falls in the domain of the Scorpion and will highlight personal power dynamics, possessions, other people’s money, love and sexuality, and deep internal transformations. As a water sign, Scorpio represents our emotional realm, and most specifically our subconscious – the underworld.
If you are finding yourself immersed in an underworld of internal struggles, or just needing to transform an important area of your life, this New Moon is the time to ask for assistance in making the changes you desire.
Scorpio is one of the signs most reflecting karma and Mercury the planet associated with communication and thought processes is closely aligned to this New Moon. I recently heard karma described as our voice, and that the words we choose to speak create karma. Words are based on our thought processes; therefore, if you don’t like the words you speak and wish to change your karma, you must begin by changing your thoughts. Karma is also simply known as the law of cause and effect. To every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. When Scorpio is active we can sometimes find ourselves involved in issues of power struggles. Therefore, it is especially important to remain conscious of karmic laws while under the influence of Scorpio.
This month’s New Moon in Scorpio also ushers in an annual and auspicious celestial event known by the Hindus as Diwali or The Festival of the Lights. It is a time of celebration and lighting of lamps to honor the light of consciousness that exists within. Diwali also marks the beginning of a new financial year. Households and businesses begin new accounting ledgers dedicated to the Divine Mother and Lakshmi—the Goddess of Fortune—who is specifically honored during Diwali.
This New Moon is a favorable time to rejoice in your meditations and request that the many Goddesses of Grace and Good Fortune, (Venus, Aphrodite, and Lakshmi,) bestow their gifts of inner awareness and abundance into your life through love, peace, and harmony.

“True change is from within; leave the outside as it is.” ~ The Dalai Lama
As we find ourselves in the midst of the most bizarre political circus ever, it is important to take the time to generate as much inner peace and love as possible. Or, more simply put, breathe deeply! Speaking of the election, I am currently writing this from my hotel room in L.A. where I am attending an Astrological Conference. Last night I attended a panel discussion consisting of several astute international Astrologers. Each presented their prediction of the election outcome and the results were unanimous: Hillary will be the next President of the United States!
Like me, you may be thinking, “it doesn’t take an Astrologer to figure that out!” And, regardless of your preferred candidate, you may also feel that “reality” is not what you previously thought. Living in our current times is surreal to be sure and definitely requires an intention to remember who we are. This brings me to the current Aries Full Moon.
The study of Astrology and the planetary cycles offer an amazing opportunity to realize the evolutionary purpose or spiritual destiny of the individual and the collective. Astrology promotes an ability to see beyond the veil, allowing us to release judgments, opinions, and criticisms of others because we understand – at the deepest level of our being – that everyone around us is on a unique and individual evolutionary journey. The integration of this knowledge frees us to turn the lens inward to focus on our own personal journey. By focusing inward (self) instead of outward (others), we assist our soul’s journey for liberation.
Full Moons occur when the Moon moves into an opposition to and reflects the light of the Sun. In this case, the Full Moon in Aries is reflecting the light of the Sun in Libra – the sign that strives for harmony and equality within relationship. Aries is the sign associated with the self and our deep instinctual need to express our individual uniqueness. The dance of light between these two signs calls our attention to our personal landscape (inner; Aries) thereby illuminating our interpersonal imbalances (outer; Libra).
Being the first sign of the zodiac, Aries is known for its independent, impulsive, and strategizing warrior nature. It thrives when it is initiating brand new cycles of adventure and self-discovery and can become easily enraged when its unfulfilled desires or innate need for freedom are thwarted.
A futuristic electric charge of change is in the air and freedom is given even more emphasis under this lunation. The Full Moon is in alignment with the electrical, rebellious, and revolutionary planet of change – Uranus (frequently referred to as the Great Awakener), as well as the Asteroid Eris, the Goddess of Discord. Remember that the collective represents the individual. Thus, while this energetic confluence is reflected with particular obviousness in our external world through the current election (outer), the same energies are acting within each of us (inner). We are being presented a ripe opportunity to explore and more easily identify those aspects of ourselves that remain unexpressed or which are manifesting in their negative expression.
As always, the planets are facilitating our individual and collective evolution. The 2016 presidential election is starkly reflecting the truth that individual imbalances lead to collective discord – the only way to restore balance in our political system is by restoring the balance in our own inner and external relationships. If you seize this opportune Astrological moment to determine what discord (Asteroid Eris) exists in your relationship to self and others then you will find an energetic motivation (Aries Full Moon) driving your process of radical transformation (Uranus) and alignment (Libra Sun). Again, in the words of The Dalai Lama, “True change is from within; leave the outside as it is.”

Friday, September 16 – 12:05 p.m. PT
Twenty-Four degrees – Nineteen minutes of Pisces
This penumbral Lunar Eclipse will be visible to observers in North America, Eastern Asia and the Northeastern Pacific Ocean.
Lasting three hours and 59 minutes in duration, September 16 will mark the end of a very powerful Eclipse season. Eclipses, Equinoxes and Solstices – as well as other significant celestial events – provide an opportunity to consciously embrace powerful universal energies. This Full Moon also happens to be a Harvest Full Moon because it is the Full Moon occurring closest to the Fall Equinox (Sept. 22).
Lunar Eclipses are a time to look at what is no longer working in our lives; to initiate the ending of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. This will be true for all of us, but especially for those who have Pisces or Virgo planets in their horoscope as these are the two zodiacal signs in which the September Eclipses occur. You can expect a Lunar Eclipse to maintain an influence in your life for as long as it takes for you to resolve the emotional dynamics occurring during its influence.
Eclipses help you to create shifts in your life and encourage you to let go of old patterns that no longer serve you. They work on three levels: personal, collective, and ultimately, the integration of both. Where there is inner uncertainty, an Eclipse will encourage you to seek clarity. Pay close attention to the revelations occurring during this Eclipse month, as what was previously hidden gives way to the light.
Representing union, Pisces is the mystical calling and unending quest to ultimately merge with divine. This Piscean search for union can permeate our dreaming and waking reality. When a Lunar Eclipse falls in the sign of Pisces, your waking world can become dreamy and surreal. The veils between the earthly and spirit realms become very thin during Eclipses and especially so when an Eclipse occurs under Pisces’s influence. This is an auspicious Eclipse to seek and merge with the sacredness of your higher self—the divine that exists within.
This current Eclipse highlights the Pisces-Virgo axis of the zodiac. Both these signs are sensitive to psychic disturbances and environmental pollutants and toxins, which eventually encourage purification and integration of body-mind-spirit. Pisces and Virgo are mutable signs indicating they are flexible with change. Take advantage of this restorative Eclipse and create new routines that allow for daily meditation and healthier ways of living.
As the final sign of the zodiac, Pisces represents the culmination of a cycle, endings in one or more areas of your life, or simply letting go of habitual patterns that no longer serve your highest well-being. During this transitional time on our planet, each of us is experiencing changes that require relinquishing comforts associated with old ways of being. Therefore, even the most difficult culminations serve your highest good while simultaneously preventing unnecessary crises and suffering when change is resistant. Embrace and honor the wisdom of fluidity that this powerful Eclipse is granting and dream new and exciting visions into your future.
The ancient sages felt that Eclipses were a time for meditation and learning; a special time to honor the spiritual aspects of your life. Try to keep your schedule light, remain internally focused, eat only pure foods, and do not consume alcohol. The veil between Earth and the heavens is thinner during an eclipse, allowing you to more easily connect to the eternal universal wisdom that is your divine essence.

The dharma of human beings is to love—to love everyone without discrepancy, serving and seeing God in all. When we live into our dharma, we can achieve the ultimate goal of life: enlightenment. Through love, human consciousness expands and becomes divine.” ~ Sri Prem Baba
Aquarius is the celestial sign that bestows the universal cosmic waters onto humankind and our planet. Although Aquarius is an air sign, it is known as The Water Bearer and this connection through the healing element of water symbolizes an ability to spread its cosmic gifts of giving and restoring life to humanity.
During a Full Moon the light of the Sun is reflected by the Moon; and in this case, it is the zodiac energy of Leo that is filtered through the Aquarian cosmic mind. This lunation will empower you to distinguish between the desires of your ego versus the desires of your soul—the heart. Leo encourages creative actualization in all its divine expression and Aquarius yearns for the manifestation of a better world. Both are ultimately seeking a high form of unconditional love.
Among many things, Aquarius is the sign associated with futuristic thinking. Aquarians are humanitarian and philanthropic by nature with an intention to make the world a better place. Uranus—the ruling planet of this Full Moon in Aquarius—is often called the great awakener and harbinger of change. It arouses the need for liberation from the status quo and an initiation into new ways of being. It encourages the dismantling of barriers that have kept us from our true dharma. Therefore, this Full Moon is sure to be a powerful catalyst to radical change and forward movement. Its energies can compel you to take the necessary steps that will support your personal and collective evolution.
“We do not become healers. We came as healers. We are. Some of us are still catching up to what we are. We do not become storytellers. We came as carriers of the stories we and our ancestors actually lived. We are. Some of us are still catching up to what we are. We do not become artists. We came as artists. We are. Some of us are still catching up to what we are. We do not become writers, dancers, musicians, helpers, peacemakers. We came as such. We are. Some of us are still catching up to what we are. We do not learn to love in this sense. We came as Love. We are Love. Some of us are still catching up to who we truly are.” ~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes
The reflective light of this Full Moon can bring clarity to the areas in your life needing change. Therefore, set intentions for the changing winds of Aquarius to blow and for its cosmic waters to flow into your life so you can set sail and proceed on your desired course.

“We come spinning out of nothingness, scattering stars … the stars form a circle, and in the center we dance.” ~ Rumi, 13th century
This month’s New Moon is in the fiery sign of Leo, which is ruled by the Sun and represented by the proud and powerful lion. The Sun’s illuminating rays bestow life; sacred wisdom through spiritual practice; and the ability to creatively actualize ourselves. A symbol of divine knowledge in many cultures, the lion is recognized from Europe to Africa as the power of the Shakti– divine energy. Hindus, for example, believe that the Man-Lion, Vishnu has both the sovereignty and power of dharma (law) to destroy evil and ignorance.
The zodiacal sign of Leo is the sign that encourages creative self-expression. The fire of the leonine Sun ignites passion, inspiration and the ability to single-mindedly focus on one’s goals. Leo also represents children and romance, marking a time to evaluate whether or not we are nurturing our inner child; creating intimate, romantic moments; and honoring and loving our own special uniqueness.
“When we say, you are creators, you think we are talking about creating furniture, or creating houses, or erecting empires, or creating relationships. That isn’t what we talk about when we talk about creating. We are talking about the creating of your state of being. And when you have understood that, and are giving that your dominant attention, then all of the physical trappings of this Universe will fall into alignment in such glorious fashion that you will amaze even yourself. You cannot do it with action. It is through focusing upon how you want to feel.
~ Abraham, The Law of Attraction
As the heart is ruled by Leo it is important during this New Moon to set intentions that deeply connect with your heart’s desires. This is important for all of us, but especially important for Leos, who can actually develop physical heart ailments when they ignore the sacred promptings of their inner heart. Spiritual masters who have obtained enlightenment, such as Sri Yogananda, tell us, “God is center everywhere, circumference nowhere.” The essence of your creative light and the ability to love yourself and others exists within the center of your heart. Tap into your heart-center during this New Moon and honor your unique and special gifts.

“Newtonian dualism pits us against time … we are deluded into thinking that time is out there, an actual physical entity that can put pressure on us in here.” ~Gay Hendricks, The Big Leap
Full Moons occur when the Sun is in the opposite sign as the Moon and typically experienced as the most powerful phase of the lunation cycle. Astrologically, the Moon represents our internal emotional nature and the Sun our external passion and direction. Because the Sun is traveling through the Moon’s sign – Cancer – we can anticipate this Full Moon to illuminate any emotions that might be hindering our freedom and enthusiasm to pursue life. We can certainly expect that to be the case because Pluto, the planet representing intensity, power, and transformation, is also currently residing in the sign of Capricorn.
Among other things, Capricorn is the sign associated with our perception of time-space reality. Impatience with the timing of – or the maturation of our goals – can keep us from enjoying the moment within time that we are currently experiencing. Gay Hendricks, in his amazing book, The Big Leap, reminds us that we are currently operating from a Newtonian mindset, “In this paradigm, we think of time as the master and us as its slave. At the extreme, time becomes our persecutor, and we think of ourselves as its victim.” As we awaken to our creative capacity within the quantum realm we realize that we are time itself – or the lack thereof. This is indeed very powerful knowledge. Hendricks further encourages us to, “Take ownership of time – acknowledge that you are where it comes from – and it will stop owning you. Claim time as yours, and it will release its claim on you.”
Capricorn is also the sign associated with responsibility, authority, work-life balance, control, reflection, fear, and emotional repression. Take time to reflect on your own personal understanding of responsibility in your life. Do you take on too much or avoid responsibility all together? Do you have hobbies that you enjoy outside of work? Are you able to be your own authority or do you give your personal authority over to others? Do you trust in a divine plan or do you try to control your surroundings or the behavior and lives of others? Do you take time to reflect on your life or do you ignore and repress your emotions and the inner promptings of your psyche? And, lastly, do you have faith in the flow of grace in your life or are you fearful and pessimistic? Non-constructive personal patterns are often masking deeply buried emotions. Ask that any hidden actions be illuminated. Once acknowledged, a plan may be put in place to make the necessary changes to create and be all that you desire.
This Full Moon is a beautiful time to own your creation of “time” and rejoice in your ability to step into “the field” and create all the “time” you need.
Capricorn Full Moon Themes to Focus On:
creation of time, work-life balance, emotional and physical security, maturation, self-responsibility, personal authority, letting go of control, trusting in the grace of divine timing.
Go outside under the Full Moon and infuse your being with its reflective light. Set your intentions, chant, drum, dance, howl – whatever calls you! Create your intentions for emotional freedom and passion of life. And, most importantly, base them on universal law and the eternal well-being for all life, including Mother Earth.
