“When wolf shows up, it is time to breathe new life into your life rituals.
Find a new path, take a new journey, take control of your life. You are the governor of your life. You create it and direct it. Do so with harmony and discipline, and then you will know the true spirit of freedom.”
— Ted Andrews, Animal-Speak
The first Full Moon of the year is said to be a “Wolf Moon” by the Native people because wolf packs howled hungrily outside their snow-laden villages. These wisdom keepers also viewed wolfs as spirit animals of the Dog Star, Sirius. Many Astrologers and ancient cultures believe that Sirius is the original home of our ancestral teachers. In fact, Sirius is referred to as the “home of the gods” by the Egyptians of antiquity and is still considered so by the Dogon tribe in Africa.
The Moon is a power ally for the Wolf as its senses are very keen. This first Full Moon of 2021 is an auspicious time to access your own inner wisdom. Astrologically, Leo is a fire-element sign, signifying psychic abilities and intuitive wisdom. Therefore, this lunation is optimal for creating a sacred space where you can quietly stare into the flame of a candle and intuit the sacred wisdom of Leo’s many qualities in your own life: self-love; inner joy and passion; creativity and co-creation; courage and pride in your accomplishments; romance and desire; adventure and recreation.
During a Full Moon, the energized light of the Sun is reflected back to Earth. In this case, the Sun is in the sign of Aquarius — the cosmic mind. Thus, the Aquarian energies streaming back down to Earth under this lunation represent, among many things, a desire to liberate oneself from the status quo and initiate change. These aspirations can incite new radical ways of thinking. We may find ourselves encouraged to dismantle any outmoded barriers that have kept us from our true dharma — our earthly purpose and soul’s destiny —individually and collectively. A common Aquarian axiom is: expect the unexpected!
Additionally, the Sun and Moon are closely aligned with Jupiter and Saturn (both in Aquarius) and, the planet Mercury (also in Aquarius) is turning retrograde on January 30. This means that for the next several weeks, and likely throughout 2021, there will be an emphasis in our lives for progressive change and humanitarian and philanthropic endeavors. Aquarius yearns for the manifestation of a better world and Leo encourages creative actualization in all its expressions: Both are ultimately seeking a high form of unconditional love.
The powerful 2021 Wolf Moon is encouraging each of us to recognize our unique gifts and aid humanity in its quest for a elevated form of love and unity during this period in our history.

in the destiny of a society and, further, will enable a change
in the destiny of humankind.” ~Daisaku Ikeda
