Venus and Mars Reunite
19°48′ Leo
Tuesday, July 13 at 6:14 a.m.

The last conjunction between Venus and Mars occurred on August 24, 2019
(almost 2 years ago) and the next will occur on February 16, 2022 (only 7 months from now).

Venus–Mars conjunctions are powerful events and this one is occurring in the royal fire sign of Leo. Let’s explore some of the Venus and Mars astrological qualities and their mythology before delving into the conjunction and what it means.

Astronomically, one cannot speak of Venus without paying homage to her luminosity as she would definitely win the planetary night lightshow for her brilliance. When in her evening phase, she is the most visible planetary-star in our solar system and 25 times brighter than the brightest fixed-star, Sirius.

Astrologically, Aphrodite’s planet of love (Venus) represents the need for balance between our love of self and our love of others.  Venus bestows love, harmony, physical beauty, the fine arts, social dynamics, and wealth into the world. Essentially, her ultimate wish is to just be adored.

It is Venus that informs us of what and who we like and dislike (what we are attracted to or repulsed by), how hard we are willing to work for what we want, our esthetic inclinations, etc. From Aphrodite’s perspective, life is all about attracting to herself (in abundance) all the loveliness that the world has to offer. She’s not so materialistic as she is desiring of being surrounded by beautiful things.

The red planet, Mars, represents the Warrior. Hence, the God of War strives to protect with courage, bravery, and fearlessness. When at its best, Mars operates from a raw impulsive instinct that is loyal and protective. Because Mars thrives on adventure and action it also highlights ardent romance. As much as Mars enjoys the conquest it also enjoys the adventure of love, and therefore, is often restless in love.

Mars thrives while initiating brand new cycles of adventure and self-discovery but can become easily enraged when its freedom-loving nature and unfulfilled desires or passions are thwarted. Mars is fiery! Ever youthful and often immature, Mars can be irresponsible.

Leo is the royal fire sign that is linked to the heart. Leo loves romance and can be the true romantic of the zodiac. It’s important to note that Classical Astrology associates Leo with romantic liaisons rather than long-term partnership. That said, Leo can definitely create the spark that is needed to generate an enduring committed relationship.

The  fire of the lion ignites passion, drama, inspiration, and the ability to single-mindedly focus on one’s goals. This is the sign that encourages creative self-expression and heart consciousness — cultivation of love for oneself. Leo also represents children and our inner child, playfulness, joy, etc.

Venus and Mars’s mythological relationship depicts a sacred and forbidden love. Venus was married, but also secretly in love with Mars, of who she has a romantic affair with. After Venus and Mars’s lovemaking, Venus watches over him as he falls into a deep erotic sleep. Even as the mischievous elves try to awaken him with his own weapons he remains oblivious and unprotected.

Because of Venus’s feminine love,
she has the ability to absorb Mars’s more assertive and vital masculinity. Hence, the mythological union between the feminine (Venus) and the masculine (Mars) is one of inner balance — one cannot not exist without the other. Is there a safe place for your inner Mars to unite with your inner Venus?

Now that we’ve covered some basic qualities of Venus, Mars, and Leo, as well as the mythology involving the “cosmic-lovers” we can better deduce the meaning of this month’s Venus–Mars conjunction. Mars likes adventure and conquest and Venus wants beauty and union. Are your cosmic-lovers in harmony with each other?

Since all conjunctions are new cycles of beginning, we can ask ourselves if there is something in our life that needs to end so we can begin anew. If not, great! Focus on creatively actualizing more love of self and others. Set new goals of adventure, discovery, and most of all, fun! If you would like to begin a new partnership or you wish to transform a current one, use this period to instill new motivation and heightened inspiration for your desires.

Along with the New Moon in Cancer on July 9, the Venus–Mars conjunction is a great opportunity to super-charge any intentions you began at that time, especially in the realm of relationship.

Venus–Mars Key Words: passion, desire, love, adventure, self-discovery, creative actualization, inspiration, motivation, playfulness–inner child, heart consciousness, self love, feminine-masculine balance, romance

The Night Sky: Astronomically, these two planets will appear closely together from June 27 to July 21.  Mark your calendar for July 12 & 13, as the sliver of the Crescent Moon combined with the Venus–Mars conjunction are sure to prove a stunning trio.
