Post-shadow period from Jan 30 – March 1, 2022
Love sometimes wants to do us a great favor: hold us upside down and shake all the nonsense out. ~ Rumi
The orbit of the planet, Venus, mimics a revered and divine feminine symbol. As the above illustration depicts, Venus’s heavenly dance represents the ancient symbol for the goddess — the pentagram.(2) A sacred-geometry symbol, the pentagram is a five-pointed star, which has a rich history as a celestial symbol for those seeking spiritual clarity and mystical knowledge.
Venus is the only planet (besides the Sun and Moon) that does not turn retrograde several times a year. Instead, Venus turns retrograde only once every 548 (or so) days. This marks a significant period because Venus retrograde periods become an opportune time to reflect on our values, the way we love, the beauty in our life, and the overall nature of our reality.
Relationships, commitments, and finances will likely be on our radar as we reassess matters of the heart, as well as our financial security. The intention of this cycle is for each of us to reckon with our values. Anything that is counterproductive to our personal wellbeing, valued purpose, or heartfelt destiny should become clear. During this Venus Retrograde, we are likely to see increasing reports of women (Venus) leaving the workforce (Capricorn) as they realize there is no value in working within a system that does not place adequate value on work-life balance.
Venus retrograde periods are not ideal for initiating activities associated with one’s appearance: surgery to improve our looks, change in hairstyle, etc. It is also not generally advised to make major purchases, renovations, and the like to beautify our home or office until the retrograde period ends.
Intimate relationships may find one or both partners questioning how they feel about the relationship and if their love or commitment is authentic. Because this retrograde cycle is occurring in the sign of Capricorn you will feel called to evaluate what is working and what isn’t. By itself, Capricorn is a committable sign so this will be a great time to recommit to an existing long-term relationship, but you may want to wait until the retrograde period is over before committing to a new one. If you do want to recommit, find ways to enhance what is working and/or improve upon what isn’t. Spending quality time (Capricorn) with a loved one is important to nourish a relationship.
Because the planet Pluto is closely aligned with Venus as she begins her retrograde, this will be a great time to deepen a new relationship if both parties are psychologically healthy and wanting true intimacy.(1) Otherwise, due to Pluto’s obsessive nature, compulsive attractions can lead to harmful and hidden agendas. Mindfulness and steadfastness of one’s long-term relationship desires is paramount.
It is also worth noting that Mercury will turn retrograde on January 15, also in Capricorn. All retrograding planets provide a suitable time for introspection on where we’ve been and where we’re going. Mercury retrogrades can create periods of serious contemplation in the area signified by the sign that it is in. With Mercury retrograding in Capricorn, we will have a twofold opportunity to revisit and reexamine how we take responsibility in our life.
Both Venus and Mercury retrograde periods can bring past lovers into our life and/or a new love that you are karmically destined to be with. This is an important time to be clear in all your communications regarding commitments and financial decisions. Those of you with Capricorn planets in your horoscope are sure to feel the effects of Aphrodite’s planet the most during this period. However, we can each use this period to reflect on the following:
- What is working and not working?
- What is needed or not needed?
- Where to commit, recommit, or make necessary changes in personal, social, and business relationships?
- Lastly, are you communicating your needs and values within your important relationships?

27°28‘ Gemini
… we discovered that education is not something which
the teacher does, but that it is a natural process which develops
spontaneously in the human being. — Maria Montessori
This last Full Moon of 2021 occurs in the communicative and versatile sign of the twins — Gemini. This ever-youthful sign is driven to discovery through curiosity, diversity, and duality. Its nature is one of restlessness as it abhors monotony. Gemini enjoys learning, gathering, and dispersing information and is associated with our thought processes. A note of caution, however, if those with this sign take in too much information too quickly the result can be mental fluctuation and unrest.
Fittingly, this Full Moon is reflecting the cosmic light of the Sun located at the Galactic Center (27°03′ Sagittarius).1 Astrologically, the sign of Sagittarius and the center of our galaxy represent “wisdom” or “truth consciousness.” The radiant light emanating from the core of our galaxy is intended to transform and imbue each of us with a deep inner knowing — that we are not separate from divine — this is the truth that we will all be called to seek and are each destined to realize.
When belief ends, knowing begins. — Anand Mehrotra
2021 has been an intense year, whereby many of us have reckoned with the fear of unfamiliar terrain and/or the many “truth versus belief” paradigms encapsulating our current-day reality. The reflective rays emitting from the Sun at our Galactic Center are encouraging us to embrace our own highest wisdom and inner knowing.
Jupiter, the ruling planet of Sagittarius, is making a benefic aspect with this Full Moon. Currently traveling through the sign of Aquarius, Jupiter is highlighting altruistic noble efforts that inspire us to strive for a better world. Friendships, organizations, and the internet (social media) are all emphasized as modes of interactive support for improving our inner and outer world. Jupiter is a philosopher by nature who loves travel and scholarly study, and its main objective is to eliminate restrictive Gemini thought patterns, as well as any outmoded Sagittarian belief systems.
The planet, Venus, will standstill early morning on the day of this Full Moon as she prepares to turn retrograde the following evening. This is important because Venus makes her retrogration only once every 548 days or so. Venus’s contribution to this final Full Moon of the year is in the areas of partnership and love (self and other), as well as a reevaluation of what brings meaning to our life. Are we in alignment with our values or just going through the motions and disconnected from our deepest core values and personal divine truth?
As you can see, this is a powerful and spiritually auspicious Full Moon for the end of 2021. While the Moon is reflecting the rays from our galactic center (December 17, 18, and 19) you will want to spend time in meditation and quiet contemplation and allow the reflective galactic rays to awaken you to your true nature.

1. The Galactic Center is the position of the black hole in our Milky Way Galaxy. The Mayans refer to this location as the “road to awe.” They revere it as the “cosmic womb of the great mother,” and it is the celestial point in space where our solar system just recently completed its 26,000-year cyclic passage. The Mayans have an extraordinary astronomical calendar that predicted this sacred passageway as occurring from 1980 through 2016 (John Major Jenkins: http://www.alignment2012.com). They believe it was during this period that much of humanity experienced an unprecedented spiritual rebirth.

The First Day of Winter & the Shortest Day of the Year
December 21 at 8:00 a.m. (pacific time)
Solstice is derived from two Latin words:
Sol meaning Sun, and sistere — to cause to standstill.
Annually, at the Winter Solstice, the Sun appears to standstill as it reaches its furthest point in the Southern Hemisphere. It is here that it joins the fixed stars (as depicted above) of the Southern Cross for three days: December 22, 23, and 24. Our ancestors referred to these three “standstill” days as the death of the Sun and when the Sun began its journey north again on December 25, it was said to be reborn. Moving north, the days will grow longer until the life-giving Sun reaches its zenith in the Northern Hemisphere on the Summer Solstice (June 21, 2022).
Films have a way of reflecting humanity’s evolutionary journey and a much anticipated sequel release of the multi-award winning film series titled, Zeitgeist, is expected in mid-2022. In this series, the producer, Peter Joseph, explains the captivating astronomical and astrological correlations with the numerous “son gods” of the ancient and modern world. In my opinion, Joseph adeptly simplifies the sociological implications of the zeitgeist1 of our times. His films encourage humanity to uncover the outmoded beliefs that are at the root of our social issues. From an astrological perspective, his films expertly depict the messy transition that humanity currently finds itself as we leave behind the Piscean age and shift into the Aquarian age.
Another awaited 2022 film-sequel release is James Cameron’s Avatar 2, which is slated for December 16, just days before the 2022 Winter Solstice. The deep connection to nature by the Pandora natives, the Na’vi, and the raping of their planet by a destructive greedy corporation certainly hit an emotional cord with its viewers. Interestingly, the grave ethical/ecological messages contained in Cameron’s Avatar film(s) will assuredly continue to be exceedingly timely.
Capricorn is the zodiac sign representing winter, decay, and death and is associated with the concept of time — maturation, aging, and mortality. Capricorn is one of the three zodiac earth signs that connect us to the cycles of our natural world. Therefore, the winter season is an optimal period to go within to reflect on the natural cycles of endings and beginnings in our own life.
The internal process of Capricorn reflection provides us the ability to look backwards with the intention of integrating all that has occurred. Undergoing this process can create an awareness of what needs to be changed for us to grow and evolve. If we embrace this period and take responsibility for our choices, while honoring each step along the way as a great learning, we will access Capricorn’s highest wisdom — personal and collective evolutionary growth, and most importantly, the perfection of the journey.

totality will be visible mainly in Antarctica with partial phase viewing in South America, South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand
Eclipses always occur in pairs: The first — Taurus Lunar Eclipse — occurred on November 19 in Taurus.
Friday, December 3, 2021
11:42 p.m. pacific time
12°22′ Sagittarius
Expansion is simply re-membering the garden that already exists. — Bashar
Lasting 1 minute and 55 seconds of totality, this will mark the final eclipse and New Moon of 2021. During a Total Solar Eclipse, the Sun’s light is entirely blocked (eclipsed) by the Moon. Astrologically, Solar Eclipses provide opportunities for transformation — the ending of an old cycle and the beginning of a new one. Eclipses provide profound periods of regeneration when we align to our destiny and embrace needed change.
This eclipse is activating the energies of the fixed star, Antares. Referred to as “splendid” or “royal” Antares is considered a star of “great success.” That is, however, if one does not strive for excess or become obsessive, either of which can lead to one’s downfall. If quality of life and balance between success and one’s goals is sought, then success is given. Combined with the Sun during an eclipse, this fixed star emphasizes the importance of acting with honor, truth, and humility.
Because this eclipse is occurring in the sign of Sagittarius, it is providing an opportunity to move into proper alignment with your innate wisdom — truth consciousness:
- What are your individual beliefs at this moment in time?
- What stories have you created or fabricated about your reality?
- Are your thoughts and communication reflecting your individual destiny — your personal truth?
As a fiery and freedom-oriented sign, Sagittarius is also associated with expansion, travel, abundance, learning, inspiration, optimism, joy, nature — and most importantly — that which provides purpose and meaning in our lives! If you are seeking to embark on a new life direction, then this eclipse is a powerful time to intend to seek the necessary freedom to follow through on the goals that will support you.
A Final Note: This eclipse is making an almost exact conjunction to the Ascendant of the United States Independence Day chart. The Ascendant is the face that is presented to the public, whether that be a chart of a nation or a person. Therefore, we can expect that within the United States, the following Sagittarius themes will become more amplified and scrutinized by its citizens and the world at large: foreign affairs, high courts of law, education, bankers and commerce, travel, publications, the truth (or propaganda), matters of faith and trust. The last time an eclipse activated the United States’ Ascendant was on December 4, 2002. Three months later, the U.S. invaded Iraq. Furthermore, you will want to pay attention on December 30–31 as the Moon joins aggressive Mars to activate the 12° Sagittarius eclipse point.
The energies of an eclipse can be felt a couple of days before and after an eclipse. The ancient sages believed that eclipses were a time for meditation and learning; a special time to honor the spiritual aspects of your life. Try to keep your schedule light, remain internally focused, eat only pure foods, and do not consume alcohol. The veil between earth and the heavens is thinner during an eclipse, allowing you to more easily connect to the eternal universal wisdom that is your divine essence and destiny.

November Lunar Eclipse
Best viewed in North America and Hawaii, Alaska, Eastern Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. Although considered a Partial Eclipse, 97% of the Moon will be eclipsed by the Earth’s shadow — 3% shy of a Total Eclipse.

27°14′ Taurus
“Scarcity of self-value cannot be remedied by money, recognition,
affection, attention or influence.” ~Gary Zukav
This is the second and final Full Moon Lunar Eclipse of 2021 and from start to finish it is reported to last six hours, the duration of which hasn’t occurred in centuries. Regardless of where on Earth we are located and whether we can visibly see an eclipse, the disruptions it causes in the Earth’s magnetic field can be felt by each of us. Eclipses come in pairs with the second one — a Solar Eclipse in Sagittarius — occurring on December 3, 2021.
During a Full Moon Eclipse, the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, whereby the Earth’s shadow blocks the Moon’s light. Obviously, not all Full Moons are Lunar Eclipses for it is only during an eclipse that the Sun and Moon align with the nodes of the Moon. These nodal points of the Moon are what many astrologers associate with our evolutionary growth, shifts of consciousness, and destiny — individually and collectively. Combined with the below significations and because this current eclipse is just 3% shy of being a Total Eclipse, it is sure to get our attention!
Eclipses help us create shifts that encourage us to release outmoded patterns and make room for new beginnings. They work on three levels: personal, collective, and ultimately, the integration of both. Where there is inner uncertainty, an eclipse will encourage us to seek clarity and transformation. Pay close attention to the revelations occurring in your life during this powerful eclipse season (mid-November thru mid-December).
At 27° Taurus, this eclipse is closely aligned with the two fixed stars, Algor at 26° Taurus, and Alcyone at 0° Gemini. Algor resides in the constellation of Perseus and Alcyone is the brightest star in the Pleiades. Algor represents the feminine principals of passion and intensity and often gets a bad rap as the most destructive fixed star in the heavens. Alas, these powers can be used positively or negatively. Alcyone symbolizes visions, mystical abilities, and ruthless judgment. Therefore, with these two stars influencing the overall theme of this eclipse, you will want to employ cautious discernment, communicate with mindfulness, seek clarity and trust your intuition in all matters.
The ruling planet of this eclipse, Venus, is traveling through the sign of Capricorn and just two days ago (November 17) entered her shadow period as she prepares to turn retrograde on December 20 – January 30. This is important because Venus doesn’t regularly turn retrograde like the rest of the planets, rather she only retrogrades once every 548 days or so. Consequently, Venus adds considerable meaning to this eclipse because she will encourage each of us to take responsibility and seriously (both, Capricorn themes) reassess relationship matters, our personal values, as well as our financial security (Venus). You can click here to discover more on Venus Retrograde.
Spiritually, Taurus represents the divine and sacred mysteries. Taurus is the zodiac sign that is connected to the inner side of Venus marking this an auspicious time to turn inward and focus on one’s connection with the self and the divine spark within. Synonymous with LOVE, when associated with Taurus, Venus asks us to cultivate a loving relationship with our inner self.
What do you truly value and how do you love others based on those values? Expect this period to bring about inner revelations about how you love yourself and others. Most importantly, if you currently believe that your security comes from external resources then now is an excellent time to contemplate and initiate new intentions for the following:
-
- To appreciate beauty and the finer things in life without needing
to possess.
- To display self-worth that radiates inner security regardless of my financial status.
- To honor and nurture my individual gifts and values.
- To love myself unconditionally.

12°40′ Scorpio
Grapes must be crushed to make wine
Diamonds form under pressure
Olives are pressed to release oil
Seeds grow in darkness
Whenever you feel crushed, under pressure, pressed, or in darkness,
you’re in a powerful place of transformation and transmutation.
Trust the process. — Lalah Delia
Scorpio is the zodiac sign that symbolizes death and rebirth (transformation), and it’s no coincidence that the Sun resides in the sign of the Scorpion during Halloween and Dia de los Muertos — the two holidays that recognize and honor dead souls. In general, during Scorpio season (Oct. 22 – Nov. 21), the veils between the realms are especially thin, allowing us to feel the presence of deceased loved ones more easily.
A Scorpio New Moon illuminates personal power dynamics, evolutionary intentions of the soul, compulsions of all kinds, secrets, suspicion, possessions, other people’s money, passion, sexuality, and transformation. When Scorpio is highlighted, opportunity for internal change and transmutation abounds.
As a water sign, Scorpio represents our emotional body and, more specifically, our deep unconscious. Scorpio is analogous to a lotus flower whose roots reside in the murky-watery depths as its blossom brilliantly reaches for the light. For many of us, balancing between the dark and light may seem less graceful than the above lotus analogy and feel more like an intense inner stirring about to give rise to a messy cathartic release.
Regardless of the form the Scorpionic process takes, the aim is to reveal and embrace our hidden emotions and passions so we can heal and and unite with our own inner light and authentic self.
Following is a lovely Scorpionic prose by C. Joybell C.:
I have entered into the darkest regions of myself, bearing torches
and lighting candles. I have left a burning lamp in each lonely
cave of my person; I have planted roses in every swamp of my
mind; I have ignited stars in all the nights of my heart. I have lit
myself on fire to walk through my soul. I have glowed as my own
moon when there was no moon within me. I have done all that
was necessary. Now watch me become the light, watch me be
the light, watch me illume as light inside of light, watch me
emerge as light.
Uranus, the planet of sudden and unexpected change is transiting through the earthy-zodiac sign that represents our security and deepest values — Taurus. Because Uranus is within minutes of making an exact opposition aspect to this New Moon it will add unforeseen elements to the mix. Think “Uranian” electrical–brain impulses and/or messages from “the field” of your higher consciousness. Simultaneously, Scorpio wishes to eliminate that which is no longer serving your personal destiny. Combined, these two energies can create impatience and a compelling need to transmute the stagnant (Scorpio) areas of your life so you can embrace your future with freedom and liberation (Uranus).
As you likely know, New Moons are a time to plant seeds of intention for new beginnings and projects. Stay mindful, however, because following this annual New Moon in Scorpio through November 9 and 10, four planets will be creating challenging aspects with one another.(1) Diligent discipline and caution will be required to navigate these potent energies, especially during the days leading up to November 9 and 10. Slow down, and plan for potential interruptions, frustration, and obstacles — adopt Sage–like mindfulness and prepare to mindfully respond to situations and people versus react. This period can be successfully navigated through meditation and inner contemplation versus the force of our egoic will. On 11.11 we can look forward to some exhilaration and expansion as the Moon joins Jupiter in Aquarius around noon pacific time.
Note
1. The traditional ruling planet of Scorpio (Mars), along with Mercury (both at 7° Scorpio), will be making two exact square aspects. The first will be with Saturn and the second with the Moon (7° Aquarius) on November 9 and 10, 2021.
