Setting Intentions Based on the New Moon

March 4, 2011 – 12:45 p.m. PT
13 degrees and 55 minutes of Pisces

The New Moon is a time of new beginnings and rebirth. It is an opportune time to set intentions for new life directions or the beginning of new projects.  This is the best time of the month to plant positive thoughts in the subconscious mind with affirmations, auspicious chants, and visualizations. Inspiration, hope, and support flourish during these next couple of days for those seeking spiritual, emotional, or mental liberation of any kind.

This is likely to be a particularly enlightening New Moon because it occurs in the intuitive sign of Pisces and falls in the ninth house which represents wisdom in the lunation horoscope.  Accompanied by five other heavenly bodies all traversing the sign of Pisces – Chiron, Mars, the Sun, Mercury, and Uranus – it creates a potent pack because of its emphasis of Pisces energy until Mercury and Uranus move into Aries around March 10.

As you may recall from my last Astro-gram, and Chiron in Pisces article, Pisces is the watery sign that seeks to dissolve all separating desires in order to unite with divine. It is through the artistic and soulful expression of Piscean energies that we can each experience the true essence of the all-pervading consciousness that exists within everything. Importantly, Pisces is also the last sign of the zodiac and therefore represents culminations.

Under this important New Moon, it is beneficial to take the time out of your busy schedule to ask yourself a couple of essential questions: 1) What is separating me from my truest expression of my divine self?  2) What might I need to culminate in my life so I can align to my higher nature?

Once you’ve answered these questions, take time to create intentions that will lead you into a closer relationship with your highest goals. Lastly, Pisces is one of two healing constellations of the zodiac (Virgo is the other.)  Healing is an important consideration when planets are highlighting one or both of these zodiac signs. This New Moon in Pisces can help illuminate any healing work that might need to occur in order for you to connect to your heart’s truest desires. Pisces also represents the dreamtime. Therefore, pay close attention to your dreams and any messages they may try to provide to you over the next couple of days.

Leo Full Moon

29 degrees and 20 minutes
Friday, Feb 18, 2011, 12:36 a.m.  PT

The Moon and her fluctuating phases symbolize the perpetual change that is constant throughout the entire universe.  The lunar cycle can be seen as the great medicine wheel of life, death and rebirth. Attuning to the various lunar phases allows us to embrace our own personal rebirth and renewal.

Full Moons foster and illuminate the sacred feminine’s gifts of abundant love, growth, nurturing, and bonding, so this is the best time of the month to honor the Great Mother Goddess through rituals such as prayer, raising energy, and life celebrations.

Many shamanic practitioners refer to the full Moon as Moon Mother because during such times our prayers are amplified and the Moon’s medicinal powers are bestowed upon our planet and all its lifeforms. As such, we should follow the shaman’s example and give thanks for the abundance received, and ask that abundance be given to all beings on Earth for healing and restoration of balance in the universe.

This month’s full Moon is in the fiery sign of Leo, which is ruled by the Sun and represented by the proud and powerful lion. The Sun’s illuminating rays bestow life; sacred wisdom through spiritual practice; and the ability to creatively actualize ourselves. A symbol of divine knowledge in many cultures, the lion is recognized from Europe to Africa as the power of the Shakti– divine energy. The Hindus, for example, believe that the Man-Lion, Vishnu has both the sovereignty and power of dharma (law) to destroy evil and ignorance.

Furthermore, Leo is the sign that represents children and creativity in general; Leos enjoy romance, are gregarious, generous, and playful. Physically, Leo rules the heart and most lions have tender hearts that need personal nurturing and if ignored, their heart may seek attention by developing a physical condition. When balanced and healthy, the lion is a strong leader, courageous, regal, and proud.

During this month’s full Moon you can manifest your goals by contemplating and integrating these powerful feminine and leonine qualities into your life. For example, you may wish to creatively actualize or cultivate stronger leadership skills; romance and partnerships; spiritual wisdom; or the healing of heart wounds.

Aquarius New Moon

13 degrees & 53 minutes
Wednesday, February 2nd, 6:30 p.m. PT
The sign of The Water Bearer and Freedom Seeker

Aquarius is the celestial sign that bestows the universal cosmic waters onto humankind and our planet. Although Aquarius is an air sign, it is known as “The Water Bearer” and this connection through the healing element of water symbolizes an ability to spread its cosmic gifts of giving and restoring life to humanity.

Among many things, Aquarius is the sign associated with futuristic thinking. Aquarians are humanitarian and philanthropic by nature with an intention to make the world a better place. Because this February New Moon is closely aligned to Mars, the god of action, it is a wonderful time for each of us to set new intentions to actively help make our planet habitable for all sentient beings now and in the future.

Aquarius is ruled by the planets Saturn and Uranus. Saturn is interested in maintaining the status quo, whereas Uranus wants unprecedented and sometimes radical change. Although these two are seemingly at odds with one another, they are the cosmic energies that ensure change, and therefore evolution. Their message reveals the need for embracing change, because if we resist, we may very likely find ourselves in the midst of a crisis.

This New Moon is an important time to evaluate your own desires and need for change. Set intentions for the winds of Aquarius to blow, and for its healing waters to flow into your life.

Full Wolf Moon

Wed., Jan. 19th – 1:20 p.m. PT
29 degrees and 26 minutes of Cancer

The first Full Moon of the year is known as the Wolf Moon by the Native people because the wolf packs howled hungrily outside their snow laden villages. Our brothers and sisters of the stars are known by the Native peoples as the Great Star Nation, and Wolfs are represented by the Dog Star, Sirius, which many Astrologers and ancient cultures believe is the original home of our teachers from ancient times.  Sirius was also known to be the home of the gods by the ancient Egyptians and is still considered so by the Dogon tribe in Africa.

The Moon is a power ally for the Wolf as its senses are very keen.  If you’ve been following my Astro-Grams you already know that the Moon is a symbol for psychic energy, and the unconscious that holds the secrets of all knowledge and wisdom.  The Full Moon in January is an auspicious time to access this inner wisdom because it falls in the watery sign of the crab – Cancer.  Cancer is the Astrological sign associated with our inner – versus – outer world.  Therefore, this is a great time to set intentions for creating more balance between your inner and outer life.

When the Moon is in Cancer the Sun is in Capricorn.  These two opposite signs are seeking balance between outer-world responsibilities of social, political and career interest and inner-world security of family, home and self.   The Moon will also be in an opposition aspect to Mars all this week which can manifest itself in a couple of ways: we can choose to initiate action to make the changes we desire, or we can become angry, and lash out at whomever gets in our way as we project our sense of disempowerment onto others.  The 2012 shift is asking that we each become aware that our actions deeply affect each other, and the collective as a whole.

The Astrological pattern of the past few months has been the twenty-nine degree planetary aspects.  This Full Moon is once again emphasizing the 29-degree theme of endings so a rebirth can occur.  Simultaneously, the planet Jupiter is also sitting at 29-degrees for three more days when on the 22nd of January it will once again enter into the sign of Aries (the Spring Equinox point) and kick off the Cardinal Cross which many of you may remember is initiating great change on a collective level.  At the same time, Jupiter will also be in a challenging square aspect to the nodal axis of the Moon and Pluto.  Jupiter is the planet that represents our individual and collective belief structures and can manifests as the teacher sharing truth consciousness, or the preacher of dogma.  While Jupiter aspects the nodal axis and Pluto, it is extremely important that we take responsibility and align ourselves with our personal truth from within.

The Wolf Moon is a reminder to all of us to empower the sacred being within and to come forth to aid humanity in its spiritual awakening of understanding the Great Mystery of connection to all of life that is unfolding on Earth at this time.

New Moon and Partial Solar Eclipse

January 4th, 2011 – 1: 02 a.m. PT
13 degrees and 38 minutes of Capricorn

The Eclipses and Our Destiny

This Solar eclipse follows the significant Winter Solstice Christmas eclipse that marked the closing of 2010.  You may recall that the Winter Solstice eclipse highlighted the Astrological themes that emphasize ending of cycles.  Energetically, eclipses bring about the transformation of death and rebirth, as well as regeneration. The December eclipse may have evoked an ending to a particular circumstance in your life so you can initiate a new beginning under this New Moon eclipse.

Powerful psychic energies give birth to new information as the light of the luminaries darken during an eclipse.  Once an eclipse is complete you are presented with an opportunity for rebirth.   An eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth are in alignment with the nodal axis of the Moon.  Astrologically, the nodal axis points represent destiny, and in the horoscope they are the points that define your own personal destiny.  With this New Moon Solar eclipse occurring in the sign of Capricorn we are being called to use the gifts of our destiny with integrity, wisdom and self-responsibility.

The Sun symbolizes creativity, strength and outward expression. It is the energy that gives us the confidence to plan for our future.  During a Solar eclipse we can find ourselves searching for our own light if the shadows of the mind and ego have created darkness.  Fortunately, if this occurs, it is only temporary, as we are spiritual beings destined to find our inner light.

“You are the one you’ve been waiting for.”  – LIttle Grandmother

The energies of an eclipse can be felt a couple of days before and after an eclipse. The ancient sages believed that eclipses were a time for meditation and learning; a special time to honor the spiritual aspects of your life. Try to keep your schedule light, remain internally focused, eat only pure foods, and do not consume alcohol. The veil between earth and the heavens is thinner during an eclipse, allowing you to more easily connect to the eternal universal wisdom that is your divine essence.

The Saturn Return in Libra

The Planetary Time Indicator of Change

The planet Saturn begins its journey through your Astrological horoscope at the moment of your birth. Its complete cycle through the zodiac and the houses of your Astrological chart takes roughly 29 years. The Saturn Return occurs when Saturn passes through the sign it was in at the time of your birth. The Saturn Return is in effect for approximately two-and-a-half years and will occur twice in your life, typically around age 28-30 and again at 58-60.  If you were born during 1980 – 1983 or 1951 – 1953 you were born with Saturn in Libra and are currently experiencing your first or second Saturn Return.

This is a very special Saturn Return for those with Saturn in Libra as it is igniting the Cardinal Cross Climax that I have written of in previous Astro-Grams.  The Cardinal Cross is emphasizing a time of both great and necessary change, making this Saturn Return even more powerful than usual.

When Saturn returns to its natal position in your chart you will undergo one of the most intense maturation periods of your life.  In general, Saturn Returns are precursors to strong and sometimes painful yearnings for change.  During this period of time you will be divinely guided to relinquish anything in your life that does not support your future life goals and purpose.  You may find yourself feeling compelled to prioritize your objectives and activities so you can make the best use of your abilities for the next 29.5 years.

This can be a very stressful and trying time because the security of the past is familiar and safe, whereas the future is still unformed and therefore uncertain.  Among many things, Saturn represents karma, responsibility and accountability.  This will be a critical time requiring you to act with extreme integrity.

The Saturn Return brings about endings and new beginnings.  The universe will unveil unhealthy and incongruent living and working conditions that can no longer be tolerated.  This recognition can bring about enormous change, which may at times feel completely out of your control.

If you resist your personal nature and desires during your Saturn Return, the next 29.5 years could bring much suffering.  If you willingly embrace Saturn’s courageous force, the transformation you make during this period can bring long term stability and future security.
