Mystical Full Moon in Pisces

“The heart of the matter is always our oneness with divine spirit, our union with all life.” ~ Nhat Hanh

Pisces is the mystical sign that represents union — the unending quest of humankind to merge with divine. This Piscean search for union can permeate your dreaming and waking reality. Your daily activities can feel dreamy and surreal as the veils between the earthly and spirit realms become thinner. A Pisces Full Moon is an auspicious time to seek and merge with the sacredness of your higher self — the divine that exists within.

“A divine dance appears in the soul and body at the time of peace and union. Anyone can learn the dance, just listen to the music.” ~ Rumi

Astrologically, the light of a Full Moon illuminates the area of our life symbolized by the zodiac sign in which it falls. Full Moons always occur when the Moon is in opposition to the Sun. The Sun will be in Virgo during this Full Moon emphasizing the Pisces–Virgo theme of healing. Both these signs are sensitive to environmental pollutants and toxins. The good news is that the awareness of your sensitivities can encourage purification and ultimately the integration of body-mind-spirit. Both Pisces and Virgo are mutable signs, and are therefore flexible and adaptable to change. Take advantage of this restorative Full Moon and create new routines that allow for daily connection to divine and healthier ways of living.

Mercury, the ruling planet of Virgo is crossing over the sensitive point of the recent August 21 Solar Eclipse at 28° Leo. This trigger point is prodding us to individually and collectively consider how we are creatively actualizing our reality (Leo). It also represents children and romance, providing us with opportunities to evaluate whether or not we are nurturing our inner child, and creating romantic moments of honoring and loving the self.

Pisces is the final sign of the zodiac and represents the culmination of a cycle, endings in one or more areas of your life, or simply letting go of habitual patterns that no longer serve your highest wellbeing. During this paramount time on our planet, many of us are experiencing ongoing changes that require relinquishing comforts associated with old ways of being. Even the most difficult culminations will serve your highest good as they simultaneously prevent unnecessary crises and suffering that result when necessary changes are resisted.  Therefore, embrace and honor the wisdom of fluidity that this Full Moon is granting and dream new and exciting visions into your future.

Leo Total Solar Eclipse

Leo Total Solar Eclipse

Monday, August 21 – 11:30 a.m. pacific time
28°52′ Leo

This Total Solar Eclipse will be visible to observers in the United States. Its path of totality is about 70 miles wide and stretches from Oregon to South Carolina. It passes through Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

The Moon is expected to cover the disk of the Sun for 2 minutes and 40 seconds. This event will mark the end of a very powerful Eclipse year. Eclipses, Equinoxes and Solstices — as well as other significant celestial events — provide an opportunity to consciously embrace powerful universal energies and this current Eclipse is no exception, because it also happens to be a rare consecutive New Moon in Leo – the first of which occurred on July 23.

“There is no passion to be found playing small–in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”  ~ Nelson Mandela

We are fortunate to have two important Eclipses this month with energies oriented toward transformation and individual/collective destiny: The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on August 7 and the New Moon Solar Eclipse on August 21. As you have experienced and know firsthand, Astrology is an effective tool for understanding the soul’s evolutionary journey. It is an amazing modality and when studied closely will provide wise counsel of your destined path. That said, it is always important to point out that the planets or birth chart do not cause events to occur in our lives, rather they reflect our level of consciousness —  awareness of the stagnant patterns from which we wish to break free.

Awareness to your individual past patterning, as well as your soul’s current destiny, is one of the many gifts Astrology offers. When you feel stuck and not able to create movement in your life, you have likely become too comfortable with the security of past familiarity. Therefore, discomfort will become more intense in order to instigate movement into a new way of interacting in life. During important Eclipse periods such as this one, the universe is encouraging us to awaken to our individual and collective destinies.

Eclipses help you to create shifts in your life and encourage you to let go of old patterns that no longer serve you. They work on three levels: personal, collective, and ultimately, the integration of both. Where there is inner uncertainty, an Eclipse will encourage you to seek clarity. Pay close attention to the revelations occurring during this Eclipse month, as what was previously hidden gives way to the light.

Astrologers have studied Eclipses and their effects since the Babylonian Era and have found that they often coincide with Earth changes, modern stock market fluctuations and political upheavals. Solar Eclipses, in particular, have been associated with radical changes in governance, revolutions, and problems associated with the “king” or leader of the country they occur over. With the advent of external events, Eclipses can become powerful indicators of needed change — collectively as well as individually. As a potent example, the current political unrest within the United States is far from resolved, the climate remains heated, and the majority of citizens are solely (or should I say “soul”-ly) disillusioned. As I’ve shared in previous articles over the past months and years, the current Astrological signatures are encouraging us to “awaken from our complacency” and initiate change. These Astrological aspects are being experienced on a global scale and will continue to prove individually and collectively transformative as outmoded systems collapse.

The zodiacal sign this Total Solar Eclipse falls in is Leo, which is the sign that encourages creative self-expression and heart consciousness. The fire of Leo ignites passion, inspiration and the ability to single-mindedly focus on one’s goals. Leo also represents children and romance, marking a time to evaluate whether or not we are nurturing our inner child, and creating romantic moments of honoring and loving the self.

As the heart is ruled by Leo it is important during this Eclipse to set intentions that honor your heart’s desires. The essence of your creative light and the ability to love yourself and others exists within the center of your heart. Set strong intentions during this Solar Eclipse to always reside in the center of your heart and to honor your unique and special gifts.

Eclipse Contemplation Themes:
Am I participating in my destiny?
Am I “being” the change I wish to see in the world?
What are my heart’s desires?
Can I release what is no longer serving me?
What new cycle should I initiate?
Do I love myself?
Am I creating romance in my life?
Am I honoring my unique gifts?

Eclipses always occur in pairs. The first, a Lunar Eclipse, occurred on August 7, during the Full Moon in Aquarius. The next pair of eclipses will occur in January and February of 2018. The energies of an eclipse can be felt a couple of days before and after an eclipse. The ancient sages believed that eclipses were a time for meditation and learning; a special time to honor the spiritual aspects of your life. Try to keep your schedule light, remain internally focused, eat only pure foods, and do not consume alcohol. The veil between earth and the heavens is thinner during an eclipse, allowing you to more easily connect to the eternal universal wisdom that is your divine essence.

Aquarius Partial Lunar Eclipse

Aquarius Partial Lunar Eclipse

Monday, August 7, 11:10 a.m. pacific time
15°25 Aquarius

“Creativity can be described as letting go of certainties.”  ~ Gail Sheehy

Lasting 1 hour and 55 minutes in duration, the August 7 Full Moon Lunar Eclipse will be visible in Europe, India, Asia, and Africa.

Lunar Eclipses always occur under a Full Moon about two weeks before or after a Solar Eclipse (New Moon). As you are likely aware, this current Eclipse season (August 2017) is especially important because the August 21 Solar Eclipse will be visible across the U.S. for the first time in 99 years.

Eclipses are potent celestial events because they imbue our psyches with the essence and spirit of “a great mystery.” Humankind has long been captivated by Eclipses and their cosmic potential of revelatory happenings. Therefore, you can expect this month’s Eclipse duo to provide you with an opportunity to uncover areas of your life that were previously hidden and need your attention.

Just as Eclipses create a temporary shadow, you too, may find yourself uncovering previous shadowy emotions (ruled by the Moon), which want to be acknowledged and honored. A Lunar Eclipse will shine a probing light into your psyche and will maintain its influence in your life for as long as it takes for you to resolve any emotional dynamics it may expose. Once these emotional dynamics are revealed, you will want to contemplate what is no longer serving your highest good so you can release what you’ve outgrown.

This current Full Moon Partial Eclipse is occurring in the sign of Aquarius, whereby the Earth will be partially blocking the creative force and light of the Sun — Leo.  Aquarius is an air sign and represents the collective or “cosmic” mind; whereas Leo is a fire sign and is associated with individuality and passion. Under this Eclipse you will be encouraged to objectively look at your emotional shadows and release any desires that are associated with your ego, so you can embrace the genuine needs and intentions of your soul — your heart.

Leo encourages creative actualization in all its divine expression and Aquarius yearns for the manifestation of a better world. Both are ultimately seeking a high form of unconditional love for self and other. Under this Lunar Eclipse, these themes will be true for all of us, but especially for those who have Aquarius or Leo planets in their horoscope.

Following are a few questions we can all ponder during this Lunar Eclipse:

  • What are your desires at this moment in time?
  • Are these desires in alignment with your heart’s longings?
  • Do you passionately participate in humanity’s evolution?
  • Do you love others and yourself unconditionally?
  • Is awareness present in your co-creative actualization with all of life?
  • Are you willing to let go of that which is no longer serving your highest good.

If yes, wonderful! If not, this Lunar Eclipse is an opportunity to acknowledge where you may feel disconnected from your heart —  your creative light and seat of passion for life. Once acknowledged, set about to release that which you need to let go of so you can move into proper alignment with your innate creative essence — and true authentic self!

“When I look inside and see that I am nothing, that is wisdom. When I look outside and see that I am everything, that is love. And between these two, my life turns.”  ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Astrologers have studied Eclipses and their effects since the Babylonian era and have found that they often coincide with earth changes, political upheavals and modern stock market fluctuations. With the advent of external events, eclipses can become powerful indicators of needed change in our personal and collective lives.

Passion & Power and The Full Moon in Capricorn

Passion & Power and The Full Moon in Capricorn

Saturday, July 8, 2017
9:06 p.m. Pacific Time

17°09′ Capricorn

“With passion pray. With passion make love. With passion eat and drink and dance and play.”  ~ Rumi

Full Moons occur when the Sun is in the opposite sign as the Moon and are typically experienced as the most powerful phase of the lunation cycle. We can certainly expect this to be the case under this Full Moon because it conjoins the planet related to intensity and power — Pluto. This penetrating celestial energy will be reflected back to us through the symbolic essence of the Sun in Cancer. Astrologically, the Moon represents our internal emotional nature and the Sun our external passion and direction. Because the Sun is traveling through the Moon’s sign —  Cancer, while conjoining the planet associated with our personal will — Mars, we can intend this Full Moon to transform any buried emotions that are keeping us from our personal power and passion for life.

Capricorn is the sign associated with maturity, time, outer world responsibilities, authority, control, fear, and emotional repression. Take time to evaluate your own personal understanding of responsibility in your life. Do you take on too much or do you avoid responsibility all together? Are you able to be your own authority or do you give your personal authority over to others? Do you trust in a divine plan or do you try to control your surroundings or the behavior and lives of others? And, lastly, do you have faith in the flow of grace in your life or are you fearful and pessimistic? Unconstructive patterns are often masking deeply buried emotions. Ask that any hidden actions be illuminated so they can be acknowledged and a plan put in place to make any necessary changes to be all that you desire.

Cancer is the sign representing emotional maturation and Capricorn the sign associated with time. As the Capricorn goat strives to reach the top of the mountain one step at a time, it often finds its success during critical juncture points of physical and emotional maturation. Under this Full Moon take “time” to evaluate the areas of your life that may need more emotional and physical maturation before they can culminate. Be patient with yourself and enjoy your personal journey knowing that you do not have to reach the top of the mountain in one leap.

This Full Moon is a beautiful time to partake in ceremony and create intentions for work-life balance, emotional and physical security dynamics, and healthy internal feminine-masculine balance. If you are unable to participate in a group ceremony, create one for yourself. Go outside and infuse your being with the Moon’s reflective light. Set your intentions, chant, drum, dance, howl—whatever calls you! Intend new goals for emotional freedom and passion of life. And, most importantly, base them on universal law—eternal well-being for all.

Uranus in Aries: A Wake-up Call; a Revolution; or Both!

Uranus in Aries: A Wake-up Call; a Revolution; or Both!

Friday, March 11, 2011 – March 6, 2019
Uranus was last in Aries from 1927 to 1935

Astrologically, there sure is a lot happening and I know you are all feeling it. Uranus made its final movement into Aries on March 11, 2011 providing us all with an amazing opportunity to embrace change.

Change is exactly what Uranus in Aries is striving for as it travels through the zodiac sign of Aries. Aries is the sign that seeks unfettered freedom, independence, and brand new beginnings. Combine these qualities with the rebelliousness of Uranus and anything is possible. Uranus represents the brain and lightning speed realizations, stimulating us like a probe to WAKE UP!  Wake up from what? you might ask.

Uranus is the ruling planet of the zodiac sign Aquarius, which represents an altruistic attitude towards humanity that will be covered in more detail in the next paragraph. Aquarius also represents the “water bearer” who pours his divine wisdom from the heavens down onto humankind. According to Greek mythology, Gaia – Mother Earth – was without a mate and yet gave birth to Uranus – Father Sky – who then became her husband. (It is written that Gaia herself was born from Chaos, the great void of the emptiness within the universe.) Gaia and Uranus birthed many offspring who Uranus feared because of their great power. To protect her children from her husband, Gaia hid them all within herself and experienced great pain. Therefore, she asked her son Cronus – Saturn – to castrate Uranus, thus severing the union of Earth and Sky.

This portion of the Uranus-Gaia myth is very important because it depicts the separation of god and goddess, or the divine mother-Gaia and father-sky. When we WAKE UP, we recognize this separation represents the trauma (symbolic of Uranus energy) and the distortion that occurs when we are forced to hide essential aspects of ourselves, eventually causing a schism within our psyches. The Mayans and other indigenous peoples are reminding us that the survival of our planet is dependent upon consciously waking up: we must balance the male and female aspects that exist within each of us; we must recognize the spiritual beings – gods and goddesses – within us all, and we must reunite our heavenly and earthly realms, literally and symbolically.

Uranus in Aries is ultimately asking each of us to rebel against anything that does not bring liberation to ourselves and all sentient beings. Our spiritual leaders are insistent that to heal the planet we must each individually make the changes necessary to heal ourselves. In short: it is up to us to cultivate and nurture our spiritual essence — both individually and collectively, Uranus in Aries can prove a powerful catalyst to dismantle the barriers that keep us stuck and unable to move forward. Many of us dislike change and this potent energy is certainly bound to feel uncomfortable at times. For this reason, it can be helpful to remember that Uranus is futuristic in nature and brings with it the light of awareness, thereby expanding our own personal future and the future of our planet.  Embrace this Uranus cycle as an important opportunity to create the change necessary for yourself and the children who will inherit our beautiful planet.

Following is a message by the Hopi Elders that poignantly captures the critical nature of our current Astrological themes:

You have been telling people that this is the eleventh hour. Now you must go back and tell people that this is the hour! And there are things to be considered: Where are you living? What are you doing? What are your relationships? Are you in right relation? Where is your water? Know your garden. It is time to speak your truth. Create your community. Be good to yourself and do not look outside of yourself for a leader. This could be a good time! There is a river flowing very fast. It is so great and fast that there are those who will be afraid. They will hold on to the shore. They will feel that they are being torn apart and they will suffer greatly. Know that the river has its destination. The elders say that we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water. See who is in there with you and celebrate. At this time we are to take nothing personally, least of all, ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth comes to a halt. The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! Banish the word “struggle” from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.  We are the ones that we have been waiting for.     ~ The Elders, Oraibi, Arizona Hopi Nation
