Leo Lunar Eclipse
Friday, Feb 10 – 4:32 p.m.
22 degrees and 28 minutes of Leo
This prenumbral Lunar Eclipse will be visible to observers in Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America, the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean.
Lasting four hours and 19 minutes in duration, February 10 will mark the beginning of a very powerful Eclipse year. Eclipses, Equinoxes and Solstices — as well as other significant celestial events — provide an opportunity to consciously embrace powerful universal energies.
This month we are fortunate to have two important Eclipses with energies oriented toward transformation and destiny: The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on February 10 and the New Moon Solar Eclipse on February 26. As you have experienced and know firsthand, Astrology is an effective tool for understanding the soul’s evolutionary journey. It is an amazing modality and when studied closely will provide wise counsel of your destined path. That said, it is always important to point out that the planets or birth chart do not cause events to occur in our lives, rather they reflect our level of consciousness — or awareness of the stagnant patterns from which we wish to break free.
Awareness to your individual past patterning, as well as your soul’s current destiny, is one of the many gifts Astrology offers. When you feel stuck and not able to create movement in your life, you have likely become too comfortable with the security of past familiarity. Therefore, discomfort will become more intense in order to instigate movement into a new way of interacting in life. During important Eclipse periods such as this one, the universe is encouraging us to awaken to our individual and collective destinies.
Lunar Eclipses are a time to look at what is no longer working in our lives so we can initiate the ending of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. This will be true for all of us, but especially powerful for those who have Leo or Pisces planets in their horoscope as these are the two zodiacal signs in which the February Eclipses occur. For each of us, we can expect a Lunar Eclipse to maintain an influence in our life for as long as it takes to resolve the emotional dynamics that surfaced during its unfolding.
“We are not here on earth to change our destiny, but to fulfill it.” ~Guy Finely
Eclipses help you to create shifts in your life and encourage you to let go of old patterns that no longer serve you. They work on three levels: personal, collective, and ultimately, the integration of both. Where there is inner uncertainty, an Eclipse will encourage you to seek clarity. Pay close attention to the revelations occurring during this Eclipse month, as what was previously hidden gives way to the light.
Astrologers have studied Eclipses and their effects since the Babylonian Era and have found that they often coincide with earth changes, modern stock market fluctuations and political upheavals. With the advent of external events, Eclipses can become powerful indicators of needed change — collectively as well as individually. As a potent example, the current political unrest within the United States is far from resolved and this discontent is exuding global comradery. As I’ve shared in previous articles over the past months and years, the current Astrological signatures are encouraging us to “awaken from our complacency” and initiate change. These Astrological aspects are being experienced on a global scale and will continue to prove individually and collectively transformative as outmoded systems collapse.
The zodiacal sign this Eclipse falls in is Leo, which is the sign that encourages creative self-expression and heart consciousness. The fire of Leo ignites passion, inspiration and the ability to single-mindedly focus on one’s goals. Leo also represents children and romance, marking a time to evaluate whether or not we are nurturing our inner child, and creating romantic moments of honoring and loving the self.
As the heart is ruled by Leo it is important during this Eclipse to set intentions that honor your heart’s desires. The essence of your creative light and the ability to love yourself and others exists within the center of your heart. Find the center of your heart during this Eclipse and honor your unique and special gifts.
Eclipse Contemplation Themes: Am I following my destiny?; What is being revealed during this Eclipse cycle?; What are my heart’s desires?; Can I release what is no longer serving me?; What new cycle should I initiate? Do I love myself?; Am I creating romance in my life?; Am I honoring my unique gifts?
Eclipses always occur in pairs. The second, a Solar Eclipse, will occur on February 26, during the New Moon in Pisces. The next pair of eclipses will occur in August. The energies of an eclipse can be felt a couple of days before and after an eclipse. The ancient sages believed that eclipses were a time for meditation and learning; a special time to honor the spiritual aspects of your life. Try to keep your schedule light, remain internally focused, eat only pure foods, and do not consume alcohol. The veil between earth and the heavens is thinner during an eclipse, allowing you to more easily connect to the eternal universal wisdom that is your divine essence.

The sign of The Water Bearer and Freedom Seeker
“The World Will Be Saved by the Western Woman.”
~ Dali Lama, Vancouver Peace Summit, 2009
The first New Moon of this year is falling in the liberating sign of Aquarius. And, in light of the current political scene it looks as if Aquarius is revealing its desire for humanitarian rights and freedoms. The Sun makes its celestial movement into the sign of Aquarius every year within hours of, or on, January 20. Since 1937, the chosen Inauguration Day following a presidential election has occurred on January 20 at noon.
As you may know, Aquarius is the sign associated with change and the revolutionary actions taken to restructure outdated social systems in an effort to create a more just world for all. It dreams of a world where all people are treated equal. It is the sign that will improve conditions for all earthly inhabitants by investing time and energy to mobilize large groups, affect politics and otherwise utilize various mechanisms to evoke visionary change. (Have images of the Women’s March on Washington arisen in your mind yet?!)
What makes the inauguration on January 20 and the Sun’s ingress into Aquarius different from past inaugurations given that each inauguration takes place with an Aquarian Sun? This year the winds of change have been steadily gaining momentum over a longer period. Astrologically, the heavenly aspects have been pointing to the need for major change and transformation for quite some time. Both the Pluto–Uranus square and Uranus’s current movement through Aries indicate that our present global destiny is one of change and transformation. In the realm of Astrology, everything is about divine timing. And, finally… the time has come!
Personally, I was overjoyed when the number of attendees for The Women’s March on Washington and its global sister march began to roll in. At the time of this writing, experts are estimating that there were 3.3 million participants in the United State alone. News outlets are heralding the global day of action as the largest demonstration to ever occur in the history of the United States!
“From a mystical perspective, the Light uses the Dark to awake in
people that inner craving for those qualities of the soul that are
fed by the Light: Liberty, Dignity, Virtue, Honor, Equality.”
~ Carolyn Myss
Furthermore, Aquarius is the celestial sign that bestows the universal cosmic waters onto humankind and our planet. Although Aquarius is an air sign, it is known as “The Water Bearer” because of its connection through the healing element of water. As we know, the feminine is also associated with water, so it’s fitting that a mass mobilization of women should take place under the sign that symbolizes an ability to spread its cosmic gifts to restore life to humanity.
Aquarius is also associated with futuristic thinking, as well as rebelliousness and free will. (Hence, those with strong Aquarian energy being humanitarian by nature with a strong predilection toward philanthropic endeavors.) Indeed, January 21, 2017 will be forever memorialized for the sense of rebellion that infused our country—and perhaps the world—whether you were physically present at a march or not.
Likewise, the marchers have affected all Americans who were forced to acknowledge that a substantial portion of the populace is dissatisfied with the status quo. Consider how this corresponds to Aquarius’s dual rulership: Saturn (its ancient ruler) and Uranus (its modern ruler). Saturn will require you to restructure that which is outmoded and Uranus will shake things up in order to awaken you from your complacency— even if that means shocking or jolting you into awareness because you refuse to acknowledge that restructuring is necessary. The important message that these two cosmic forces reveal—as illustrated by the events on January 21— is unprecedented change. They will motivate you to embrace any unhealthy and incongruent living and working conditions that no longer support your future life goals and purpose— mirrored in the very messages marchers were carrying, chanting and demanding we acknowledge!
Lastly, Saturn is currently transiting through Sagittarius, the sign that encourages freedom in order to explore the deeper meaning of life. Simultaneously, Uranus is transiting through Aries, the sign that supports the dismantling of any barriers that are preventing growth. Therefore, this New Moon is inspiring us, individually and collectively, to (1) honor that which brings the deepest meaning to your life and (2) create the necessary forward movement to support your own desires and therefore, evolution.

from a new belief that says life happens not to me but for me.”

22 degrees and 34 minutes of Cancer
The first Full Moon of the 2017 is known as the Wolf Moon by the Native people because the wolf packs howled hungrily outside their snow laden villages. Our brothers and sisters of the stars are known by the Native peoples as the Great Star Nation, and wolves are represented by the Dog Star, Sirius, which many Astrologers and ancient cultures believe is the original home of our teachers from ancient times. Sirius was also known to be the home of the gods by the ancient Egyptians and is still considered so by the Dogon tribe in Africa.
The Moon is a power ally for the Wolf as its senses are very keen. If you’ve been following my Astro-Grams you already know that the Moon is a symbol for psychic energy, and the unconscious that holds the secrets of all knowledge and wisdom. The Full Moon in January is an auspicious time to access this inner wisdom because it falls in the watery sign of the crab – Cancer. Cancer is the Astrological sign associated with our inner versus outer world. Therefore, this is a great time to set intentions for creating more balance between your inner and outer life.
When the Moon is in Cancer the Sun is in Capricorn. These two opposite signs are seeking balance between outer world responsibilities of social, political, and career interest and inner world security of family, home, and self. This Full Moon lunation is making an exact square aspect to Jupiter at 22° Libra, while also highlighting the powerful Pluto–Uranus square — both are emphasizing the ongoing social political transformations that are occurring in our country and our world. With these potent planetary energies we are encouraged to individually and collectively revolutionize outmoded ways of living that are no longer in harmony with natural law.
The Wolf Moon is an inspiring reminder for each of us to empower the sacred being within and to come forth and aid humanity in its spiritual awakening of union with the Great Mystery that is unfolding at this time in our history.

“Knowledge of reality is limited by our pre-existing beliefs, assumptions and expectations.” ~ Cynthia Sue Larson
The study of Astrology and the planetary cycles offers an amazing opportunity to understand the evolutionary and spiritual purpose of each zodiac sign. This understanding provides a capacity to see beyond the veil and to release judgments, opinions, and criticisms of others. When we truly understand that everyone around us is on a unique individual evolutionary journey and we focus on our own individual spiritual journey we become liberated.
The last Full Moon of 2016 is the final of three consecutive Full Super Moons and occurs in the communicative and versatile sign of duality — Gemini. Gemini is the sign driven to discovery through curiosity. It enjoys gathering and dispersing information and is associated with our thought processes. If it takes in too much information too quickly, it can experience mental fluctuations and unrest. It is flexible and ever youthful.
A Full Moon always occurs when it opposes the path of the Sun on the zodiac ecliptic. Because this is a Full Super Moon you can expect the reflected energies of the Sun to be more heightened than a regular Full Moon. This month the Sun is in the fire sign of Sagittarius, conjunct the planet Saturn. (Both the Sun and Saturn are opposing the Full Moon in Gemini.) Sagittarius is the Astrological zodiac sign associated with the quest that takes us in search of our individual cosmic truth. Before we can see the truth of who we truly are we must eliminate any limiting Gemini thought patterns and longstanding Sagittarian belief systems that are no longer serving us.
Additionally, Mercury is the ruling planet of Gemini and is currently in its shadow period before beginning its retrograde cycle on December 19 in the sign of Capricorn. Mercury will begin its retrograde cycle just before the Winter Solstice occurring on December 21 when the Sun also makes its journey into Capricorn, signifying the official start of winter. Capricorn is the sign associated with responsibility, control, authority, fear, work-life balance, reflection, and time-space reality. With this Full Moon occurring during a Mercury retrograde cycle we can expect any outmoded beliefs around these matters to get our attention.
Therefore, this thought provoking Full Moon in Gemini with its emphasis on Sagittarius—truth versus belief — is an excellent time for each of us to contemplate the following:
– What are my individual beliefs at this moment in time?
– What stories and thoughts am I currently creating about my reality?
– Are these beliefs and thoughts reflecting my individual desires and destiny—my truth?
– If not, what is needed for me to allow a revolutionary transformation in my own life?
“What we can or cannot do, what we consider possible or impossible, is rarely a function of our true capability. It is more likely a function of our beliefs about who we are.” ~Tony Robbins

This New Moon is occurring in Sagittarius which is the zodiac sign associated with the center of our galaxy — the position of the black hole. This location is referred to by the Mayans as the “road to awe.” They revered it as the “cosmic womb of the great mother” and it is the celestial point in space where our solar system is currently making its 26,000-year cyclic passage. As you likely know, the Mayans have an extraordinary astronomical calendar that predicts the occurrence of this sacred passageway of our solar system from 1980 through 2016. [1] They believe it is during this time period that humanity will undergo an unprecedented spiritual rebirth.
Sagittarius and the center of our galaxy represent “wisdom” or “truth consciousness.” The cosmic light emanating from the center of our galaxy is intended to transform and purify each of us into an unprecedented awakening! This awakening is the truth consciousness that we are not separate from divine. It is this truth we will each ultimately seek and are destined to realize.
As a fiery and freedom oriented sign, Sagittarius is also associated with travel, abundance, learning, inspiration, optimism, joy, nature, and most importantly, that which provides purpose and meaning in our lives. If you are seeking a new direction this auspicious lunation is a powerful time to intend and follow through on goals that will support you.
Because New Moons represent new beginnings and Sagittarius highlights freedom, this is an opportune time to contemplate the areas of your life where you feel trapped or prevented from manifesting your truest desires. Embrace this powerful New Moon with the intention to find meaning, optimism and joy for your future, and gratitude for the life you are living. Then, set a course of action to create the freedom needed to embark on your envisioned future.
Lastly, be kind, gentle, and loving with yourself, especially during the busy holiday season.

1. The Galactic Alignment zone is 1998 +/- 18 years = 1980–2016. Precession is caused by the earth wobbling very slowly on its axis and shits the position of the equinoxes and solstices one degree every 71.5 years. Because the Sun is one-half a degree wide 36 years is the suggested time window for the Sun to precess (journey) through the galactic equator. John Major Jenkins: http://www.alignment2012.com.
