Lasting 1 hour and 55 minutes in duration, the August 7 Full Moon Lunar Eclipse will be visible in Europe, India, Asia, and Africa.
Lunar Eclipses always occur under a Full Moon about two weeks before or after a Solar Eclipse (New Moon). As you are likely aware, this current Eclipse season (August 2017) is especially important because the August 21 Solar Eclipse will be visible across the U.S. for the first time in 99 years.
Eclipses are potent celestial events because they imbue our psyches with the essence and spirit of “a great mystery.” Humankind has long been captivated by Eclipses and their cosmic potential of revelatory happenings. Therefore, you can expect this month’s Eclipse duo to provide you with an opportunity to uncover areas of your life that were previously hidden and need your attention.
Just as Eclipses create a temporary shadow, you too, may find yourself uncovering previous shadowy emotions (ruled by the Moon), which want to be acknowledged and honored. A Lunar Eclipse will shine a probing light into your psyche and will maintain its influence in your life for as long as it takes for you to resolve any emotional dynamics it may expose. Once these emotional dynamics are revealed, you will want to contemplate what is no longer serving your highest good so you can release what you’ve outgrown.
This current Full Moon Partial Eclipse is occurring in the sign of Aquarius, whereby the Earth will be partially blocking the creative force and light of the Sun — Leo. Aquarius is an air sign and represents the collective or “cosmic” mind; whereas Leo is a fire sign and is associated with individuality and passion. Under this Eclipse you will be encouraged to objectively look at your emotional shadows and release any desires that are associated with your ego, so you can embrace the genuine needs and intentions of your soul — your heart.
Leo encourages creative actualization in all its divine expression and Aquarius yearns for the manifestation of a better world. Both are ultimately seeking a high form of unconditional love for self and other. Under this Lunar Eclipse, these themes will be true for all of us, but especially for those who have Aquarius or Leo planets in their horoscope.
Following are a few questions we can all ponder during this Lunar Eclipse:
- What are your desires at this moment in time?
- Are these desires in alignment with your heart’s longings?
- Do you passionately participate in humanity’s evolution?
- Do you love others and yourself unconditionally?
- Is awareness present in your co-creative actualization with all of life?
- Are you willing to let go of that which is no longer serving your highest good.
If yes, wonderful! If not, this Lunar Eclipse is an opportunity to acknowledge where you may feel disconnected from your heart — your creative light and seat of passion for life. Once acknowledged, set about to release that which you need to let go of so you can move into proper alignment with your innate creative essence — and true authentic self!
“When I look inside and see that I am nothing, that is wisdom. When I look outside and see that I am everything, that is love. And between these two, my life turns.” ~ Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj
Astrologers have studied Eclipses and their effects since the Babylonian era and have found that they often coincide with earth changes, political upheavals and modern stock market fluctuations. With the advent of external events, eclipses can become powerful indicators of needed change in our personal and collective lives.
The energies of an Eclipse can be felt a few days before and after its occurrence and the ancient sages believed eclipses were a time for meditation and learning; a special time to honor the spiritual aspects of your life. Try to keep your schedule light, remain internally focused, eat only pure foods, and do not consume alcohol. The veil between Earth and the heavens is thinner during an eclipse, allowing you to more easily connect to the eternal universal wisdom that is your divine essence.

“With passion pray. With passion make love. With passion eat and drink and dance and play.” ~ Rumi
Full Moons occur when the Sun is in the opposite sign as the Moon and are typically experienced as the most powerful phase of the lunation cycle. We can certainly expect this to be the case under this Full Moon because it conjoins the planet related to intensity and power — Pluto. This penetrating celestial energy will be reflected back to us through the symbolic essence of the Sun in Cancer. Astrologically, the Moon represents our internal emotional nature and the Sun our external passion and direction. Because the Sun is traveling through the Moon’s sign — Cancer, while conjoining the planet associated with our personal will — Mars, we can intend this Full Moon to transform any buried emotions that are keeping us from our personal power and passion for life.
Capricorn is the sign associated with maturity, time, outer world responsibilities, authority, control, fear, and emotional repression. Take time to evaluate your own personal understanding of responsibility in your life. Do you take on too much or do you avoid responsibility all together? Are you able to be your own authority or do you give your personal authority over to others? Do you trust in a divine plan or do you try to control your surroundings or the behavior and lives of others? And, lastly, do you have faith in the flow of grace in your life or are you fearful and pessimistic? Unconstructive patterns are often masking deeply buried emotions. Ask that any hidden actions be illuminated so they can be acknowledged and a plan put in place to make any necessary changes to be all that you desire.
Cancer is the sign representing emotional maturation and Capricorn the sign associated with time. As the Capricorn goat strives to reach the top of the mountain one step at a time, it often finds its success during critical juncture points of physical and emotional maturation. Under this Full Moon take “time” to evaluate the areas of your life that may need more emotional and physical maturation before they can culminate. Be patient with yourself and enjoy your personal journey knowing that you do not have to reach the top of the mountain in one leap.
This Full Moon is a beautiful time to partake in ceremony and create intentions for work-life balance, emotional and physical security dynamics, and healthy internal feminine-masculine balance. If you are unable to participate in a group ceremony, create one for yourself. Go outside and infuse your being with the Moon’s reflective light. Set your intentions, chant, drum, dance, howl—whatever calls you! Intend new goals for emotional freedom and passion of life. And, most importantly, base them on universal law—eternal well-being for all.

Uranus was last in Aries from 1927 to 1935
Astrologically, there sure is a lot happening and I know you are all feeling it. Uranus made its final movement into Aries on March 11, 2011 providing us all with an amazing opportunity to embrace change.
Change is exactly what Uranus in Aries is striving for as it travels through the zodiac sign of Aries. Aries is the sign that seeks unfettered freedom, independence, and brand new beginnings. Combine these qualities with the rebelliousness of Uranus and anything is possible. Uranus represents the brain and lightning speed realizations, stimulating us like a probe to WAKE UP! Wake up from what? you might ask.
Uranus is the ruling planet of the zodiac sign Aquarius, which represents an altruistic attitude towards humanity that will be covered in more detail in the next paragraph. Aquarius also represents the “water bearer” who pours his divine wisdom from the heavens down onto humankind. According to Greek mythology, Gaia – Mother Earth – was without a mate and yet gave birth to Uranus – Father Sky – who then became her husband. (It is written that Gaia herself was born from Chaos, the great void of the emptiness within the universe.) Gaia and Uranus birthed many offspring who Uranus feared because of their great power. To protect her children from her husband, Gaia hid them all within herself and experienced great pain. Therefore, she asked her son Cronus – Saturn – to castrate Uranus, thus severing the union of Earth and Sky.
This portion of the Uranus-Gaia myth is very important because it depicts the separation of god and goddess, or the divine mother-Gaia and father-sky. When we WAKE UP, we recognize this separation represents the trauma (symbolic of Uranus energy) and the distortion that occurs when we are forced to hide essential aspects of ourselves, eventually causing a schism within our psyches. The Mayans and other indigenous peoples are reminding us that the survival of our planet is dependent upon consciously waking up: we must balance the male and female aspects that exist within each of us; we must recognize the spiritual beings – gods and goddesses – within us all, and we must reunite our heavenly and earthly realms, literally and symbolically.
Uranus in Aries is ultimately asking each of us to rebel against anything that does not bring liberation to ourselves and all sentient beings. Our spiritual leaders are insistent that to heal the planet we must each individually make the changes necessary to heal ourselves. In short: it is up to us to cultivate and nurture our spiritual essence — both individually and collectively, Uranus in Aries can prove a powerful catalyst to dismantle the barriers that keep us stuck and unable to move forward. Many of us dislike change and this potent energy is certainly bound to feel uncomfortable at times. For this reason, it can be helpful to remember that Uranus is futuristic in nature and brings with it the light of awareness, thereby expanding our own personal future and the future of our planet. Embrace this Uranus cycle as an important opportunity to create the change necessary for yourself and the children who will inherit our beautiful planet.
Following is a message by the Hopi Elders that poignantly captures the critical nature of our current Astrological themes:
You have been telling people that this is the eleventh hour. Now you must go back and tell people that this is the hour! And there are things to be considered: Where are you living? What are you doing? What are your relationships? Are you in right relation? Where is your water? Know your garden. It is time to speak your truth. Create your community. Be good to yourself and do not look outside of yourself for a leader. This could be a good time! There is a river flowing very fast. It is so great and fast that there are those who will be afraid. They will hold on to the shore. They will feel that they are being torn apart and they will suffer greatly. Know that the river has its destination. The elders say that we must let go of the shore, push off into the middle of the river, keep our eyes open, and our heads above the water. See who is in there with you and celebrate. At this time we are to take nothing personally, least of all, ourselves. For the moment that we do, our spiritual growth comes to a halt. The time of the lone wolf is over. Gather yourselves! Banish the word “struggle” from your attitude and your vocabulary. All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration. We are the ones that we have been waiting for. ~ The Elders, Oraibi, Arizona Hopi Nation

“To live in the light of a new day and an unimaginable and unpredictable future, you must become fully present to a deeper truth – not
a truth from your head, but a truth from your heart; not a truth from your ego, but a truth from the highest source.” ~ Debbie Ford
This month’s Full Moon is occurring in Sagittarius, which is the zodiac sign associated with the center of our galaxy — the position of the black hole. The Mayans refer to this location as the “road to awe.” They revere it as the “cosmic womb of the great mother” and it is the celestial point in space where our solar system just recently completed its 26,000-year cyclic passage. The Mayans have an extraordinary astronomical calendar that predicted this sacred passageway as occurring from 1980 through 2016. [1] They believe it was during this period that much of humanity experienced an unprecedented spiritual rebirth.
Astrologically, Sagittarius and the center of our galaxy represent “wisdom” or “truth consciousness.” The cosmic light emanating from the center of our galaxy is intended to transform and purify each of us into an eventual awakening! This awakening is the truth consciousness that we are not separate from divine. It is this truth we will each ultimately seek and are destined to realize.
This Full Moon is also important because it is joining the planet Saturn, and these two will not be together again (in the sign of Sagittarius) until 2044. Our personal, collective, and social political ideals are radically shifting during this historic time period. I wrote in my Saturn in Sagittarius article, which I posted in 2014, that changes during this period would come about in the areas related to education, religion, and political scandals. I also noted that there would likely be archeological and space discoveries that would challenge our current belief structures and simultaneously expand our consciousness. All of this has occurred, and you can expect more unfolding of the above with an ever greater intensity in the next few months as Saturn prepares to leave the sign of Sagittarius, towards the end of December.
As a fiery and freedom oriented sign, Sagittarius is also associated with travel, abundance, learning, inspiration, optimism, joy, nature, and most importantly, that which provides purpose and meaning in our lives. Because Sagittarius highlights liberation, this is an opportune time to contemplate the areas of your life where you may feel trapped or unable to manifest your true authentic self.
Embrace this Full Moon with awe and wonder, and create an intention to find meaning, optimism and joy in your future, and gratitude for the life you are living.
1. The Galactic Alignment zone is 1998 +/- 18 years = 1980–2016. Precession is caused by the earth wobbling very slowly on its axis and shits the position of the equinoxes and solstices one degree every 71.5 years. Because the Sun is one-half a degree wide 36 years is the suggested time window for the Sun to precess (journey) through the galactic equator. John Major Jenkins: http://www.alignment2012.com.

“Three things cannot be long hidden, the Sun, the Moon and the Truth.” ~Buddha
This month’s Full Moon is considered spiritually auspicious as people all over the world celebrate Buddha’s enlightenment. It was while the Moon was in her full phase in Scorpio that Buddha sat under the Bodhi tree over 2,500 years ago and obtained Nirvana. The sign of the Scorpion encourages each of us to embrace the mysteries of death and rebirth. Cycles of darkness eventually awaken us to the wisdom of enlightenment that result from going deep within.
The Moon moves into Scorpio at 10:01 p.m. PT on Monday evening and on Wednesday it enters into its exact Full Moon phase at 2:42 p.m. Because the Moon is traveling through the domain of the Scorpion it will highlight personal power dynamics, possessions, other people’s money, sexuality, and a need for deep internal transformations.
As a water sign, Scorpio represents our emotional realm and most specifically, our deep subconscious — also known as the underworld by the native shamans. This lunation cycle has the potential to suddenly illuminate hidden agendas and encourage long overdue transformation. If you desire change you will want to embrace this powerful Full Moon to transmute and transform your life.
Scorpio is feminine in nature and symbolizes the spiritual essence of the divine shakti — energy and power — which is recognized as the many faces of the divine feminine. In the Hindu tradition the divine shakti is known as the divine mother, the universal creator, destroyer of evil, and sustainer of all life. Her many faces are acknowledged as Kali, Durga, and the only female companion of Lord Shiva — Parvati. The divine union of Shiva and Parvati is symbolic of the powerful merger of equality between the sacred feminine and masculine.
The Full Moon in Scorpio only occurs once a year when the Moon is in opposition to the Sun and reflects the solar energies of the zodiac sign Taurus — the sign associated with inner security, values and self-love. This is an especially powerful Full Moon because Pluto, the modern ruler of Scorpio, is currently making a trine aspect to the Sun. This aspect has the capacity to promote powerful alchemical transmutation both spiritually and emotionally. Therefore, remain vigilant as this Full Moon can offer you a sneak preview of your soul’s evolutionary path.
This lunation along with the Pluto–Sun trine offers the potential to illuminate hidden agendas and encourage long overdue change. If alchemical transformation is something you desire you can draw upon the powerful energy of Scorpio to transmute your life. Spend time in meditation, ceremony, or ritual and intend to awaken to the metamorphosis of your human and spiritual journey.

21 degrees and 32 minutes of Libra
This month’s Full Moon occurs in the sign that represents harmonizing partnerships and the equalizing “scales of balance” — Libra. In Astrology, the Moon is considered to be a luminary, which means that it has the potential to light up the unconscious realms, both personally and collectively. As you may be aware, a Full Moon always occurs when it opposes the path of the Sun on the zodiac ecliptic; with this month’s Full Moon conjoining the planet of expansive vision—Jupiter, we can expect to find ourselves contemplating the need for more balance in our life.
This is an especially important Full Moon because Venus — the ruling planet of Libra — is currently retrograde. Venus retrograde periods only occur approximately every 550 days. Venus is the planet associated with what we value and how we love. Therefore, this lunation is encouraging us to contemplate how we embody the commonality that brings about cooperation and harmoniously balanced relationships (Libra) versus the discord of self-interest that creates separateness (Aries). Or more simply put, how do we love ourselves and others.
Mercury turned retrograde on April 9, in the other sign of love – Taurus. Ultimately, Taurus represents self-love. As you may know, retrograding planets provide a suitable time for introspection on where we’ve been and where we are going. Mercury retrogrades can create periods of deep thought in the area signified by the sign that it is retrograding. With Mercury retrograde in the sign of Taurus we have a twofold opportunity to revisit and contemplate how we love ourselves and others.
Because Libra is the zodiac sign striving for equality within all partnerships, the current Astrological significations are encouraging us to “wake-up” and regain a state of peace and harmony in our personal and collective lives. Therefore, you can use the light of this powerful Full Moon to focus upon and determine where you need more balance. For example, if you feel you are out of balance with either your intimate or professional partnerships, and possibly giving more than you are receiving, then you will want to spend time contemplating how you might resolve this imbalance.
The Libra archetype often becomes aware that it can give far more than it receives. Therefore, it may be helpful to observe areas of your life where this dynamic is exemplified. When Libra is involved, sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is to know when not to give, thereby allowing that individual to independently determine their own needs—Aries. Once you can personally maintain equilibrium in your life, you will find that the imbalances automatically resolve themselves.
Lastly, Libra is the sign associated with the kidneys and blood sugar balances. Therefore, this will be a great Full Moon to commit to consuming less sugar, foods high in carbohydrates, and alcohol. Look for healthy alternatives that support your overall well-being.
For the night sky watchers: as mentioned above, that planet next to the Moon for the next couple of days is Jupiter!
