Twenty-four degrees & twenty-three minutes of Sagittarius
If you read my last Astro-Gram you know that 2011 marks the rare occurrence of six eclipses in one year: four solar and two lunar. The first eclipse—a partial solar eclipse—occurred in January. On June 1, another partial solar eclipse occurred in Gemini kicking off a trio of eclipses within a month. The second eclipse of this trio will occur on Wednesday, June 15 in the sign of Sagittarius and is the first total lunar eclipse of 2011. The final of this noteworthy trio—a partial solar eclipse—occurs in Cancer on July 1. Be sure and watch for important upcoming communication on this third eclipse and its significance as it ignites the Astrological Cardinal Cross. Lastly, the final two eclipses of 2011 will occur in November and December.
A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon is completely immersed within the Earth’s shadow. During this eclipse, totality will last just over 100 minutes—longer than any total lunar eclipse since July 16, 2000. This eclipse will be visible over Africa and Central Asia, but will not be seen in North America. This is a relatively rare eclipse where the moon passes through the center line of the Earth’s shadow. The last lunar eclipse that occurred close to the center of the Earth’s shadow took place on July 16, 2000 and the next will occur on July 27, 2018.
Astrological and astronomical correlations throughout history have shown that eclipses have significant connections to the rise and fall of civilizations, and geologic and climate anomalies. With the advent of external events, eclipses can become powerful indicators of needed change in our personal lives. Lunar energies govern domestic matters, the feminine principal, and the water element. These energies encourage us to examine our emotions, and create and hold intentions for change in our lives.
Mercury— the planet representing communication— is combust the Sun in this eclipse, and therefore, will not be able to act effectively until a couple of days after the eclipse. Prepare to be as clear as possible, and take responsibility with all your communication, especially in the work place, because Mercury is highlighting the career sector of this eclipse chart. Please refer to my June 1 solar eclipse for more information on destiny and Mercury’s influence under these two eclipses.
Full Moons occur when the Moon is opposite the Sun, and during this eclipse the Moon will be in the sign of Sagittarius opposite the Sun in Gemini. The Sagittarius Moon’s ruling planet is Jupiter which just moved into Taurus on June 4, paving the way for increased awareness of what it truly means to feel secure. As the eclipses create a temporary shadow, you too, may find yourself uncovering previously buried emotions around your personal security that need to be acknowledged. This is an intense eclipse that may have you questioning your long-held beliefs—Moon in Sagittarius—around what security means for you. Spend time under this full Moon eclipse to seek the Sagittarian wisdom that can only come through your personal truth.
As the Moon represents cycles, lunar eclipses are a time to look at what is no longer working in your life, and initiate the ending of a cycle and the beginning of a new one. Each of us will experience the effects of this eclipse trio where the eclipse falls in our own charts. Those with planets in the mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius and Pisces, and especially the Sun if you were born late in the sign,) will feel this eclipse most intensely. You can expect a lunar eclipse to maintain an influence in your life for as long as it takes for you to resolve the emotional dynamics that it produced.
The ancient sages felt that eclipses were a time for meditation and learning; a special time to honor the spiritual aspects of your life. Try to keep your schedule light, remain internally focused, eat only pure foods, and do not consume alcohol. The veil between earth and the heavens is thinner during an eclipse, allowing you to more easily connect to the eternal universal wisdom that is your divine essence.

Destiny and the Upcoming Eclipse Trio
2011 will mark the rare occurrence of six eclipses in one year: four solar and two lunar. The first eclipse—a partial solar eclipse—occurred in January. On June 1, another partial solar eclipse will occur in Gemini kicking off a trio of eclipses within a month. The second eclipse of this trio will occur in Sagittarius on June 15 and is the first total lunar eclipse of 2011. The final of this noteworthy trio—a partial solar eclipse—occurs in Cancer on July 1st. Be sure and watch for important upcoming communication on this third eclipse and its significance as it ignites the Astrological Cardinal Cross. Lastly, the final two eclipses of 2011 will occur in November and December.
This month’s supercharged new moon and partial solar eclipse in Gemini will be visible from Siberia, Alaska, Northern Canada, Newfoundland, Iceland, and Scandinavia. Disruptions in the earth’s magnetic field occur during Eclipses. Therefore, regardless of where an Eclipse is visible, its influence can be felt by all of earth’s inhabitants. An eclipse occurs when the Sun, Moon and Earth are in alignment with the nodal axis of the Moon. Astrologically, the nodal axis points represent destiny, and in the horoscope they are the points that define your own personal destiny. You may recall that energetically, eclipses bring about the transformation of death and rebirth, as well as regeneration. Powerful psychic energies give birth to new information as the light of the luminaries darken during an eclipse. Once an eclipse is complete you are presented with an opportunity for rebirth.
Mercury, The Messenger of the God’s, is the ruling planet of Gemini, and Gemini and Mercury are both associated with our thought and communication processes. Experts have proven that our thoughts can create positive or negative effects within our lives, the lives of others, and nature. Therefore, look for this eclipse to illuminate personal thought patterns requiring conscious constructive change. Renowned scientist Gregg Braden describes this concept beautifully, “The physical world is a reflection of our love and fears. If we conquer our fears only then will we be free. Catastrophes cannot occur if we are vibrating love.”
With this powerful new moon solar eclipse occurring in the sign of Gemini we are being called to use the gifts of our destiny with a curious openness. Each new moon phase represents a time to set intentions for new beginnings. This initial eclipse is ushering in an urgent need to learn and discover new and diverse perspectives. It is a time to become conscious of our thought patterns and their effect on our well being and that of all sentient beings. Fortunately, Saturn the planet of discipline and structure is making an auspicious aspect to this new moon eclipse providing favorable support for initiating desired change.
The Mayan’s refer to this current transitional time on earth as The Shift of the Ages. And, these upcoming eclipses can be harbingers of even more transformation and change, as eclipses often coincide with unexpected earth events, stock market fluctuations and political upheavals. On a personal note, emotions can become intense if they’ve been denied or repressed. New and important experiences or people can suddenly come into your life, and simultaneously, others may be removed. Changes are prevalent during eclipses so try to remain flexible and try not to judge anything that occurs as good or bad.
The Sun symbolizes creativity, wisdom, strength and outward expression. It is the energy that gives us the confidence to plan for our future. During a solar eclipse the Moon blocks the light from the Sun and casts a shadow on Earth. Therefore, symbolically during the next month while we are under the direct influence of this stimulating eclipse trio we can find ourselves searching for our own light if the shadows of the mind and ego have created darkness. Fortunately, if this occurs, it is only temporary, as we are spiritual beings destined to awaken to our inner light.
The energies of an eclipse can be felt a couple of days before and after an eclipse. The ancient sages believed that eclipses were a time for meditation and learning; a special time to honor the spiritual aspects of your life. Try to keep your schedule light, remain internally focused, eat only pure foods, and do not consume alcohol. The veil between earth and the heavens is thinner during an eclipse, allowing you to more easily connect to the eternal universal wisdom that is your divine essence.

26 degrees and 13 minutes of Scorpio
This month’s Full Moon is considered to be very auspicious as it kicks off the 2600 year anniversary of Buddha’s enlightenment. The Moon moved into Scorpio at 9:32 a.m. PT on Sunday morning, whereby many of us have since experienced Scorpio’s intensity–externally and internally. This lunation cycle can unexpectedly illuminate secrets and a deep need for transformation. If this is the case for you, draw upon the powerful energy of Scorpio to transmute and transform.
Scorpio is feminine in nature and symbolizes the element of water. Its spiritual essence is symbolized by the divine shakti—energy and power—which is recognized as the many faces of the divine feminine. In the Hindu tradition the divine shakti is known as the divine mother, the universal creator, destroyer of evil and sustainer of all life. Her many faces are acknowledged as Kali, Durga, and the only female companion of Lord Shiva—Parvati. The divine union of Shiva and Parvati is symbolic of the powerful merger of equality between the sacred feminine and masculine.
Scorpio encourages us to embrace the mysteries of death and rebirth. Cycles of darkness eventually awaken us to the wisdom of enlightenment that result from going deep within. You may find yourself stuck in a defeating karmic cycle if you’ve allowed yourself to become disempowered in any area of your life. Therefore, embrace this potent and auspicious Full Moon as a powerful time to shift and heal any self-defeating behavior patterns so you can transfom and give birth to new and self-empowered aspects of YOU!

12 degrees and 30 minutes of Taurus
The Moon will be in the sign of Taurus all day on Monday and Tuesday. When the Moon travels through Taurus we are each given an opportunity to honor all things earthly. In the sign of the bull, the Moon is ruled by Venus and becomes dignified as it grants Venusian prospects of good fortune. Under Taurus’ lunar influence we may want to take time off, relax, and experience the finer things in life. You may find yourself seeking emotional security, comfort and the sensual pleasures of gourmet food, fine wine and chocolate.
Because Taurus is associated with security and what we value, it is connected Astrologically to our personal financial security. In our Western world we often find ourselves associating our personal value and self-worth with our growing or diminishing financial status. Therefore, you may ponder your personal values and self-worth during this potent lunar phase.
Taurus New Moon phases are auspicious times to contemplate and initiate new intentions for the following:
- Developing an appreciation and enjoyment of beauty and the finer things in life without the desired need to possess or own.
- Honoring and nurturing your precious time based on your individual gifts and values.
- Cultivating self-worth that radiates inner security regardless of your financial status.
(The next Full Moon Ceremony Maria Alvarez and I co-facilitate will occur under the powerful sign of Scorpio on Sunday, May 15, at 4pm.)

27 degrees and 44 minutes
This month’s Full Moon occurs in the cardinal sign that represents harmonizing partnerships and the equalizing “scales of balance”—Libra. In Astrology, the Moon is considered to be a luminary lighting the path that allows us to see into the unconscious realms, both personally and collectively. As you may be aware, a Full Moon always occurs when it opposes the path of the Sun on the zodiac ecliptic and this month’s Full Moon is most significant because it will also oppose four other planets—all in the cardinal sign of Aries— creating the April Fire Sky that I wrote about earlier this month. These planetary oppositions are an opportune time to focus on finding the commonality that brings about union—Libra—versus the discord that creates separateness—Aries.
Out of the ten planets (including planet Earth) that orbit our Sun, Neptune and Venus are the only two not currently in a cardinal sign. I continue to point out when planets fall in the caridnal signs because they highlight the Cardinal Cross which indicates the essential need for change within us and on our planet. You may have seen the YouTube video “2012—A Message of Hope” that I posted on my facebook page in which Deepak Chopra so poignantly emphasizes Libra’s balancing qualities. He states, “If the collective mind is turbulent than nature is turbulent. We are not separate from nature and the current earth crises. When we settle down, nature will settle down. Through our unified hearts we may lessen the crises. Meditate every day!”
I feel Deepak Chopra’s message is important for this month’s Full Moon because we are daily witness to an unstable world that is striving to return to a state of equilibrium. Because Libra is the zodiac sign striving for equality within all partnerships, the current Astrological significations are encouraging us to “wake-up” and regain a state of peace and harmony in our personal and collective lives. Therefore, you can use the light of this powerful Full Moon to focus upon and determine where you can be more balanced. If, for example, you feel you are out of balance with either your intimate or professional partnerships and possibly giving more than you are receiving, then you will want to spend time contemplating how you can resolve the imbalance and then take action.
Once you can personally maintain equilibrium in your life, you will find the relationship imbalance resolved. The Libra archetype will often find that it gives far more than it receives so it may be helpful to observe areas of your life where this dynamic is exemplified. When Libra is involved, sometimes the greatest gift we can give another person is to know when not to give, thereby allowing that individual to independently determine their own needs—Aries.
Lastly, during this Full Moon, Saturn—which is also in Libra— is in an exact opposition to Mars in Aries. Mercury is still retrograde and will conjoin Mars on the 18th while also opposing Saturn. Mercury governs our speech and thought processes; Mars wants action; and Saturn can be ridged and stoic. Globally, watch for heated political conversations, especially in regard to the Japanese nuclear disaster. Individually, examine your thoughts carefully before speaking these next few days, otherwise you could regret untimely and irrational outbursts. Most importantly, continue to do your individual healing so you can help restore balance to our beautiful planet by embodying Libra’s peace and harmony.

As you may be aware, the Fukushima earthquake and tsunami occurred when Uranus moved into the zodiac sign of Aries–at precisely zero degrees or the Aries zero point. This is on the beginning of the Astrological zodiac which signifies the changing of the seasons from winter to spring and an initiatory time of change and new beginnings. During April 2 to 4, 2011 there will be six planets traversing the heavens in the cardinal fire sign of Aries: the Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Uranus, and Mercury. This is important because these planets will ignite the Cardinal Cross energy that I’ve spoken of in my previous Astro-Grams.
Uranus is the planet that also rules change, and more specifically, earthquakes and all things nuclear related. It will travel through the energetic sign of Aries until 2019. For decades activists have been lobbying for renewable and sustainable energy sources as a result of disasters such as Chernobyl, and last year’s Deepwater Horizon oil spill. Aries gives us the fiery energy needed to initiate the implementation of sustainable energy sources that will avert similar disasters from happening again in the future.
Furthermore, as I write this article, the nuclear reactors in Fukushima are once again making headlines, and the US has declared “preemptive military action” in Libya. These two events on the global stage are indicative of the Astrological planetary significations that will occur, and which may prompt newsworthy attention during the next few days, specifically:
April 1– 10 p.m. PT: Mars– the god of war and explosions– is entering the Aries zero point. As I mentioned above, this was Uranus’s exact point when the earthquake struck Japan, and thus we could see more related incidences in Japan.
April 2– 4:16 p.m. PT: The Moon, which rules water as well as the public domain, enters the zero point of Aries thru April 4. These two days will be important because the Moon will join the remaining four planets in Aries, including Uranus, and shed additional light and attention on recent global upheavals.
April 3– Mars will conjoin Uranus, the great awakener of change. Watch for more unexpected and perhaps explosive events which can bring enlightening awareness.
April 4– Mars will make a challenging aspect to Uranus in the Libya Republic Astrological Chart, which may render more war and trauma (Uranus) in the country and continue to threaten the security of its residents.
It is my belief that the intensity of the Astrological energies over these four days will serve as yet another wakeup call that urges humanity to recognize and seize opportunities to restore the planet’s balance, both literally and metaphorically. When planetary bodies pass over a point of sensitivity in the ecliptic, Astrologers will often see activity reignited in the geographic location that the original event occurred. In summary, Mars is considered a malefic planet that frequently delivers events ripe with strife and disagreements, individually and collectively. As Mars passes over Uranus, and the critical Astrological points of the past few weeks, we are certain to witness a continual unfolding of that to which Uranus wants us to awaken, and therefore change, in our personal lives and globally.
